From looking at other threads, ET40 is going to need a spacer. Have a look at these:

thank you. so my understanding is that width of the tire isnt as important than the offset in regards to strut clearance. is that correct?

I don't have enough experience to comment much about that. To me it looks like both rim width and offset are important factors when using 255/35/18. I think it also depends a bit on how much strut clearance you consider safe. I remember reading that some coil-over front stuts require a bit more clearance than the stock struts.

18x9.0 +40 will clear the inside but the 255 tire may be a bit close on the inside. You may need a spacer depending on what suspension you are running.

so the 18x9 will fit all around on stock with no spacers...drop down to 235 or 245 all around? will this set up be better if I go 19 an staggered (2) 19x8.5 +35 (2) 19x9.5 +35 |

Without spacers I still think the front will be really close to the strut, so I'd probably put 3mm spacers to give better clearance. I'd also think about dropping down to a 245/35/18 on the front if rotating the tyres isn't a priority for you.
Please post some pics if you end up getting the wheels. |

I am running 245/40R18s all around with +35 offset.
The tires I am running (Dunlop star spec) are almost 10mm wider than others so I am almost essentially running 255s |
