Calling the S2000 a POS is not gonna gain you much credibility. I drive the S2000 all the time and it's downright a much more fun car than my Z4M. Its transmission easily blows the Z4's and Z4M's transmissions away. The Z4M beat the S2000 in the video. Big deal. The Z4M has what? 90 more HP and 100 more lb-ft of torque? It doesn't change the fact that the S2000 is a better handling car than the Z4M and would have no problem hanging or beating the regular Z4 on any track.

LSD & DSC gave the Z4M the advantage here.

You sir, are smoking crack. If there was a shred of truth to what you were saying, then the S2000 would be classed in SS as opposed to AS in SCCA. There's no way in hell the S2000 would hang with the Z4M anywhere. Strip, Oval, Road Course, Solo II, etc...

The Z4M is well above and beyond the level of the S2000.

Who said anything about the S2000 hanging with the Z4M?

I previously owned an 03 S2K and it was a great "drivers" car....but you had to know how to drive it.

S2K is a lot of fun, especially if you drive it like a motorcycle. Keep the rpms up. Fits like a glove and everyone agrees that the transmission is just sweet!

I like my little baby Z4 because it fits and I like the exhaust note better. That and I'm a BMW snob.

Better gearbox? Check.

More fun? Sure.

But better handling than a Z4M? Ehhh... I don't know if I'd dare go that far.

It might handle a bit better than a regular stock non-M Z4 roadster, but it rides quite a bit harsher as well. I don't think the suspension setup is anywhere near comparable in terms of everyday usability. And the non-M Z4 Coupe will still eat one, IMO.

I think the S2000 actually is the equal or better to any Z roadster

the handling on the M version isn't really any better than the regular Z, to me it actually seems that the M handles worse than the std Z4.

If I was smaller I'd know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the S2000 beat a Z4 on the track, the MZ4 would be faster, but that's due to power not handling.

Someone should also point out that it's a TUNED S2000 in the video.

My point was that, I think, if you stiffened up the Z4's suspension so that it rode like the S2000, the Z4 might very well be the better handling car.

BUT, it would also probably sell about as well as the S2000.

Which is to say, even less than the Z4 sells now. Not exactly what BMW is aiming for, nor was the Z4 ever intended to be positioned as a hardcore track car. At it's peak, the Z4 was outselling the S2000, 2-1. And at a higher price point, to boot. I wouldn't say it's because the Z is more desireable, but more because the S2000 is much more severely compromised to achieve it's purity of purpose.

That said, I don't think the difference in handling is all that great, if at all noticeable on public roads. I think the difference in all-around livability is much greater.

And as for the M... well, I would never say that the S2000 handles better. Does it handle in a friendlier manner? It's possible.

We're talking about handling performance here, not ride comfort. The S2000 is almost 400lbs lighter than the MZ4 - you can't defeat physics. Not to mention the S2000 is known to be one of the best handling production cars today. I don't own an S2000 and have never owned a Honda (I'm no Honda fanboi) and no one is paying me to compliment the S2000. My best friend has an S2000 and we switch cars all the time and I have no problem admitting that stock to stock my Z4M, which costs almost twice as much the S2000, is inferior in handling.

By the way, stats (no I'm not going to dig up the stats for anyone on a Friday night) have shown that a stock Z4 3.0 with sport suspension corners better than the MZ4. What does that mean? Probably not much since they didn't test both cars in the same condition, on the same day, with the same driver.

Relax, I'm not calling you a liar.

But like I said... *I*, personally, would never say the same thing.

I already extolled the virtues of the Z4 as an everyday car. And really the only objective information posted in this thread concerning performance is found in the video, where a tuned S2000 runs against a stock MZ4. I've never driven the MZ4, and unfortunately, I have nothing else to go on. I don't believe we even know how much power the S2000 was pushing in the video, or what kind of suspension mods it had.

I said the S2000 is a better handling car than the Z4M, which it is. I said the S2000 could hang or beat the regular Z4 on the track. Show me where I said the S2000 can hang with the Z4M on the track?

I'm with GP on this one, and I'm usually a pretty strong member of the pro german/anti japanese car camp

I do agree with what I bolded of his post, the M wins on power, not handling grace
