Winter tires for F30 328I

Guys, I need your advise. This is my first BMW. I have started a 4 year lease on a new F30 328I Lux trim. I live in the north Toronto area and I would not be doing more than 5000 KM per season on the winter tires, mostly city driving.

I am looking for something inexpensive under $1000 including installation, etc

What size should I be looking at and any recomendations. I am open to used rims and used tires or new tires and used rims. I a don't necessarily need to go with run flats and I do understand the differences etc. Please advise. Thanks

Used rims (for F30) may not exist out there now because your F30 product line is going thru the first ever winter season in Canada. Unless the F30 has the same spec as the E90/92/93

Give us your current rim and tire size spec and we can assist you.

Your current rims (18 * 8) have offset 34 and this is exactly the same for the old 3 series E90/92/93. Therefore, if you can find an used set from old 3 series, then you should be able to save some $.

If you are downsizing to 17". You can do 17 * 7.5 et 37 or 17 * 8 et 34. Same as the old 3 series use.

Thanks for the input. My preference would be to go with 17" but I also heard that I could go with 16" as well. I would want to buy something like used rims and new tires or used rims and new winters. Would the sizes be the same if I went with non run flats- I mean regular tires? Also, any recomendations of where to purchase?

Usually I prefer to go just 1 size down ... meaning in your case, 17" would be ideal.

Used rims & used tires can be found in Kijiji and here http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=300

Winter tire size (proper fitting) would be 225/50/17 H or V speed rated, if possible as to maintain the stock spec.

Within the winter tire grouping, there are the winter performance tire and there are the snow & ice tire. Both group of winters have their advantage & disadvantage. In general, given the T.O. past couple of winters, I feel you should be alright by choosing the winter performance tire as they handle better in dry cold winter weather.

Since you are trying to buy used, then if you are able to find a set that are mentioned in that link, along with priced reasonably, then you should consider it.

^ I don't see why not. For 328, you will need 17". Not 16"

The question is finding them may be harder than you think. If you do find them, they may be around $100 which is just cheaper than an alloy wheel which goes for about $140 or so per. Steel wheel will rust very quickly, probably just after 1 winter or 2.

Runflats would be a good idea if you normally drive mostly highways, isolated roads which making changing tires an extremely high risk task. Otherwise, regular winters are fine but you will then need a compact portable electric air compressor which will at least get you to the nearest service station, dealer or home.
