IND Trunk Badge Installation Procedure
IND Trunk Badge Installation Procedure
In continuation of supplanting the BMW chrome accents, one of the other areas require attention is the trunk badge. BMW always supplies a chrome badge denoting the given vehicles model. Although we will not substitute the infamous Texaco Red and Bavaria Blue accents, we will provide enthusiasts with a badge suitable for the theme of their vehicle. Similar to our gloss black side marker we utilize the OEM piece as a base. Tools required:
2.) Simply take the bondo spreader and gently work your way through the 3M adhesive backing. The more patience demonstrated in this step will result in a easier clean up. 3.) When the chrome badge is removed from the vehicle there may be some adhesive left over from the backing. Simply remove this adhesive with a all purpose cleaner carefully applied it to a microfiber. 4.) Now that the surface is clean feel free to apply a little adhesive promoter. Alternatively, at this time you can simply apply the gloss black lettering. Remove the wax paper cover on the adhesive of the badge and apply one letter at a time with light pressure. 5.) Upon completion remove the painters tape, clean up the area around the badge, and admire how the removal of a little chrome piece can change the back of a vehicle

I put the gloss black emblem from IND on my Monte Carlo Blue M5. The installation was pretty easy... I just followed the instructions posted by IND.
I'm somewhat indifferent on the black emblem on the MCB color. I like that it matches the black side marker grills that i put in, as well as the black kidney grills. But it's also hard to read the M on the MCB color. It could have been the lighting this afternoon when the did the install, and the car was pretty dirty too. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Cheers. |

It's counterintuitive but when you apply black accents to MCB you are doing the opposite of what others do when they apply black accents to white or silver cars. They are creating contrast and we would be destroying contrast.

Nate, I wonder how frozen silverstone pieces will look on MCB because it is a bit blue-ish, isn't it? Might be a good match?

Those of you who have done this. Did you use adhesive promoter? Is it necessary? I am note sure where to get it. If it isn't needed I am happy to proceed without it.
Thoughts?

I didn't use an adhesive promoter. I cleaned the area pretty good with a soft cloth and some windex glass cleaner. The new emblem went on pretty easily.

I don't know. The other thing I find is that painted badges and trim look cheap. If you're going to do this order the factory black chrome versions through IND. Those give you a much more polished factory appearance.

Lol, just ordered the side vents and rear badge through iND tonight, but all this stuff is plastic. Even the original "chrome" trim from BMW. Will definitely get some pics posted when done.

Contrast is great if that's the look you're seeking, sure looks beautiful and appropriate on the AW.
But if going for a more subdued look, I think it would look nice on darker colors as well. At least this is what I'm hoping for as I just ordered for new black M5. |
