Allocation information available

It seems like allocation information is out now.
Contact your dealer to see how many they are getting.

I just got email from Steve Thomas BMW.
Unfortunately, they are only getting one a month
If this trend continues, I am not getting one till December...

Production numbers are already being assigned. We have the first production number for the March build which should arrive in late May. April production should arrive in June, and so forth. At this point, we are getting one allocation a month.

Is that March build a customer car or are they talking about their launch/demo car (which I realize may very well have been sold to a customer - I'm not referring to those specifics)?

There are 338 dealerships in the US according to BMW US website. So for rough back-of-napkin numbers if we assume each dealership is getting one car per month:

338 dealerships x 10 months of production = ~3400 cars in 2014

Of course, not every dealership gets the same allocation but it's a guess at an average monthly build rate.

That sounds about right, considering that this is not a full year of production... the same as the last 3 years of the E9X M3.

Better yet, how many total allocations are you guys getting for March (SOP 3/14)?

Well, at least one positive thing about getting cat later this year vs. getting one on June is that I may be able to get better financing rate with more holiday special discounts...

GOLFFRR, thanks for the update. I can understand production lines will take time to ramp up to full capacity.

Do you know one of each per month for how many months? For comparison, do you remember how many E9x allocation your dealership was getting per month during the last 2 years of E9x's production? Thanks.

With that being said, does everyone know what position they are on their lists? I was told I'm #1 for m3 when I signed up over the summer. They already had 4 people on the list at that point.

I'm #3. My dealer has said I will be in the first month of allocation (and will definitely be an April build date), along with the 2 M3 orders ahead of me. They are getting 10 M3s for the rest of the year and 26 M4s.

As of now we only know the first few months are 1 per month for us. Every dealer is different however I would imagine most or all dealers pretty much get the same amount which is 1-2 a month. Allocations change throughout the year month to month. The 235 and the x5 were the same situation however x5 wise we were able to get a couple more allocations as the factory is starting to catch up to demand. I would assume after the first year of production and demand levels off a bit you will see more allocations up for grabs.

as far as e9xM go we were getting 4-5 on average per month however we were also selling more e9xM then anyone for a lot of years. A lot of times we were able to buy allocation off other dealers etc.. that who were not able to sell there allotment. I don't see that happening on the new M's bc of the high demand and little allotment.

you can almost guarantee you will be getting better rates/ incentives by that time if I had to place a bet.

I agree.

Except GOLFFRR (thanks for that info, BTW) has now said it will be one M3 plus one M4, above. So that basically doubles my number unless my estimated average monthly allocation was too aggressive.

I wish we could get a better sense of how long the wait lists are on a nationwide basis. I have a feeling that in some regions this car isn't even a blip on the radar yet.

^^Keep in mind that is for "our" dealership. Allocations can vary from dealer to dealer. Im sure you are aware of this but I just want to make sure I make that point so there is no confusion down the line with anything or anyone and their dealer

Right, gotcha. I am just trying to extrapolate to come up with an average. I figure some will get fewer allocations while some may get more. Admittedly, one data point doesn't make for much certainty, but for now it's all I have to work with.
