BMW's are all funky. After like 15 of them, I guess an argument could be made that some aspects of them are "crappy". But you know as well as I do, there is simply nothing like these cars. And we are all addicted like heroin!

PS. And I think this habit costs a lot more than the smack!

The USB needs the original iPhone or BMW cable to work (or a cable that is to the same spec). Sounds strange but there have been many posts on this.

I found it out myself when using a aftermarket cable and could not connect to my iPhone. Swapped to the original cable and it worked straight away!

I should have clarified myself. If your lighter port isn't working, it could be your fuse needs replacement.

If you don't work on your own car bring it in. Probably a bad fuse and will take 5 minutes to fix.

If you do work on your own car:
Check your fuses. In the fuse box are replacement fuses.

Defiantly sounds like a fuse if that area (USB, cig power) is not working.

If you leave the car sitting for long period of time and it happens often, probably a good idea to invest in a trickle charger. BMW sells them, you can probably purchase at a dealership parts counter.

This way you can prevent any battery issues (headache and $$) from happening.

This is most likely the correct advice regarding the USB and iPhone. Apple likes to remind everyone that USB cables are not created equally, and I experienced this very issue last week. My wife has also had problems with after market chargers. Don't be surprised if all your problems are fixed with original apple gear.

Incidentally, for everyone that leaves an iPod connected as your primary external music device, you can buy 2-3 inch iPod cables at Target that take up zero room in your console, versus folding up a long USB cable. And as far as I can tell, iPods are NOT as sensitive to non-apple cables as the iPhone.

All lightning cables have an auth chip embedded.

Although it has been duplicated, so China has been and is cranking them out.
