OEM Exhaust modification question

I currently have the valves wired open on my stock, non-competition package exhaust. Sound is better than before, but still needs work. I can't justify spending $$$ on an Akra right now - but that's the general sound quality I'm going for. Clean and strong w/no drone.

I was hoping you forum guru's would have some tips on a few basic mods I could look into? (Resonator delete, downpipes, etc). I fully understand there may be no way to exactly replicate the Akra sound, but there's gotta be a way to get somewhat close?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.....

btw - I've been using this sticky as a reference point for some research, but would appreciate more input.

I actually removed my resonators and have my valves tied open. Exhaust note isn't much louder during regular driving. Cold Starts are definitely louder and there is a little more burble at idle but nothing comparable to Akra

downpipes. delete the cold start if it's too loud, but CEl will be an issue.

i'm not sure why people keep spending money on Akra, it's overpriced. And doesn't help sound much. Even on the e9xM, it was weak as shit.

I'm having an AWE Tuning Axel Back installed Monday. If it sounds anything like the YouTube clip without any droning (they use some anti-droning design), I'll be pretty happy:

I just saw a vid a full Eisenmann Sport setup (mid pipes and rear section) in the 'For Sale' section and it sounded SICK! I had the E-Sport on my e46 M3 back in the day....added a non-res X-Pipe and I was good.

Maybe I should consider doing the same... thanks for the idea!

If your going downpipes in the long run, fit them first before going further to the dark side. You might be surprised by the result and it might be more than enough to be happy. From there I would fit a resonated X - pipe to cut out drone and remove rear mufflers. Or you can just go for the combinations shown on that thread which are pretty accurate.
You will need to get a tune to remove the CEL and dreaded cold start as once you've fitted downpipes no cold start needed to warm up the cats, plus the noise will start to piss you off, your family and the neighbors.
