Exclamation BMW Issues Stop on M5 and M6 Deliveries. Owners to Stop Driving Due to Oil Pump Issue

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
UPDATE:

Please see M5 / M6 Oil Pump Recall FAQ and Affected VIN List

Just received a call from my dealer advising me that BMW has issued a bulletin stating there is a issue with the engine in the M5's & M6's. Something to do with sudden loss of oil pressure? Told NOT to drive the car they will be flatbedding it back to the dealership! You may want to call your dealer and see if you VIN is on the last of effected M5's/M6's...

Here is the bulletin:

Yes, because of me.......
But better that than replacing a whole bunch on engines (or cars...)

Thanks, I just emailed the Sales and Service managers to see what this is and if my car is affected. Will come back with their response.

This is an ALL STOP.

They will not deliver cars in the pipeline, they are stopping production, and they are asking existing consumers to stop driving until this is fixed.

Not good.

I was sooooo close... but I guess it's better for them to catch it now b4 delivery than after. Is there another attachment to the service bulletin that have the VIN's that are affected?

Unfortunate, but glad BMW was able to identify this before it got bad and engines had to be replaced. Even better they will come pick up your car to see if its affected.

they're trying to make it sound like only certain VINs are effected but i'm willing to bet it's every single vehicle with that S63tu

Gotta wonder why this didn't come up in testing. I mean BMW tries these cars in all sorts of temps, hammers them on the Ring and elsewhere, etc, and the M5 has been on sale for several months outside the US. I'd love to know more about the circumstances that trigger this failure -- or maybe their oil pump supplier had an unnoticed quality control issue?
