Would you mind posting the dyno results under the DYI or Exhaust thread on the charcoal filter delete?

I can't see the pictures from my work computer. How much horsepower change was there from the Charcoal Filter delete? Can someone post this for me. Thanks!

Some of the airboxes were coming off the production line with holes in the bottom of them. Then they started to add silver plates to cover the holes. Seems like most of the later built cars had the plates, mine does.

So if I'm understanding this correctly about 625 crank hp? Seems high for stock ecu with exhaust, scoops and plates? But very impressive. Were these #'s "corrected" on the graph?

According to the top right it looks uncorrected (non SAE)....

Since my airbox has a snorkel instead of a hole or a block off plate, and the build date was the end of November 2012, I wonder what BMW had in mind as the final design of the airbox? Has anyone with a later build date taken their airbox apart? Why would BMW leave the hole initially and then block it off completely, only to add the snorkel later?

Heard.

I removed mine and I did feel the car was stronger... he ran his car 3 runs after the block plate was added so maybe the car was still adapting and the filters showed gains they didnt deserve?

I don't find it so hard. Actually, the numbers he is posting after installing the plates reflect ACTUAL numbers recorded on stock F10s by many people. Seems to be becoming pretty common knowledge that BMW grossly understated the HP and Torque on the stock cars. Likely that the hole in his box "took away" and the plates simply restored the power.

Also, the charcoal deletes do seem to work. I did mine and it feels a bit more "loosened up" the same way it did on my E60. I don't know about necessarily 15 hp but it is enough to be noticed.

I'm also skeptical.
Same time between runs? Same fans etc?
I can Make similar gains by doing some hot heat soaked runs then doing a cold run.
Not to question your credibility but just curious on the other variables.

I've even dyno'd it without any exhaust on to see if these overpriced exhausts had any real gains.

I know! This might prove my hypothesis correct.

I removed my charcoal filters tonight and also found out that I have the block off plates. My car is an August 2012 build.

Here's some low quality iPhone pix for your viewing pleasure.

After I removed the stupid environmentalist filters, I went for a test drive and raced a riced out civic or two. The results of my drive were excellent. The butt dyno was detecting appreciable gains and I felt like I could hear the turbos a little better. Prolly all in my head though or this case in my butt. Lol!

...... Without a video of each run with temps, IAT,EGT, Ambient and humidity. Those are really far fetched numbers for the changes made... Tuning and full exhaust are bringing the same kind of numbers as the block off plate. 40 HP from a block off plate that should do lil to no difference on a dyno, with a fan blowing in to the RPI air ducts.. Unless the first run or runs were with no fans or some other change. How can removing a thin layer of filter bring an amazing 15 HP and completely removing the filter or putting on the gruppe M intake only yield the same results. Your first change (Plates) restricts the amount of flow to the filter and the second Removing the C filter helps flow more air.... How do they compound to make more power rather then cancel each other out?...

Sorry to be a skeptic but seems unusual to yield such large results on stock software and to gain TQ and HP both times from opposite changes, seems to good to be true.

Aloha

This is kind of my point with out the extra filter you hear a difference.. If you take off the plates you will hear similar sound... So how can adding more air and restricting the air not negate each other? Especially on a none heat soaked car on a dyno with proper air flow.... 50+ HP and 70+ TQ from two small mods on a stock intake.....??? SAY WHAT???? No tune no exhaust change... how could an air pump be so poorly designed from factory?

Aloha
Alex
