I configured an F10 M5 with the following options:

- Full Leather
- Executive Package
- Bang & Olufsen
- Competition Package
- M Carbon Ceramic Breaks
- Drivers Assistance Package

Total: $122,050! That's a lot of cheese for an M5!

Considering if you put a Frozen Paint job on that, rear seat entertainment, and night vision, you are over $130K. Might as well go for an M6 Gran Coupe with a few less options at this price point, jeez!

Interesting. Don't see the option for the iDrive touch controller. I wonder if it's standard.

Competition package: $7300 - $1300 for the 20"s
= $6000 for sports exhaust with black tips, lower springs and stiffer dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, "enhanced" steering, 15 HP, stiffer front axle bushings.

Good value or skip and get Eisenmann Race, H&R Springs...Discuss

Ok, so I can pick which wheels I want with the Comp Package, but I can't order HUD separately. What gives?

Also you have to order the LED headlights seperately, where as on the 2013 M6 the LED headlights were included in the Executive Package. WTF?!

Understanding what "enhanced steering" is would tip the scales one way or the other for me. Imagine - we're talking about an M5 that has optional "enhanced steering".

Well crap, who is going to be satisfied with unenhanced M5 steering? Especially all those LA dudes and chicks .

I feel like Bmw over prices their cars sometimes.. that's a lot of money for an M5 when you could buy something with that price that's a lot better

6 grand for some alternate software, a retuned suspension and steering, and black exhaust pipes seems insane to me -- especially since as others pointed out, given that we're talking about an M5 this should all arguably have become standard as part of a year-over-year improvement to the model. I understand BMW has to cover some R&D costs here, but give me a break. They'll be able to spread that out over several model years since they introduced this package so early in the lifecycle.

Losing HUD as a standalone option is irritating especially since there's basically nothing other than Comfort Access in the Exec Package that interests me, and Comfort Access isn't worth $4200 ($5500 Exec Package minus $1300 from when HUD was standalone). In fact a lot of stuff in that package I'd actively want NOT to have even if it was free because it's just more stuff to break and add weight. But I'd really want HUD! I'm betting BMW saw huge take rates on HUD standalone removed it counting on people to opt for the full Exec Package just to get it, thereby increasing profit margins.

And wow, carbon ceramics have swelled to $9250? That's incredible considering that ZR1 carbon ceramic rotors "only" cost ~$1500 each, and here the option price is theoretically the marginal cost of the carbon ceramic setup over the standard brake setup since you're obviously not getting both -- AND carbon ceramics aren't covered by Ultimate Service. But I still don't see the point of them unless you're seriously OCD about dust or a serious track enthusiast, though in the latter case I doubt an M5 would be your chosen track weapon.

I don't think so. The M5 might be expensive but it is definitely worth the price.
Not many cars can do this and carry 5 people in that price range

I'm not being a fanboy, just consider all you're getting for the price.

All that said, I find the price of the comp pack excessive considering that it's not like normal mods where you get your stuff back, this you get the car as is with it, and $7K seems like a whole lot for those things IMO

Considering the m5 has similar performance, and better real world comfort to the Porsche panamara turbo s which can easily cost north of $180k I would say the m5 is a relative bargain.

Regarding the competition package pricing - it does seem excessive considering the changes are primarily programming, but I'm just glad that a) the 20" wheels of either style are a NC option with it and b) the carbon ceramic brakes are a separate option, keeping ZCP from being a 17k option.

I'll be opting for ZCP with 343M wheels.

So to clarify, are you just getting black tips (cosmetic only) or the M exhaust we saw a few weeks ago here if you get the comp package?

If you look at it from a performance standpoint, sure it's overpriced but built into the price is the fact it is a family car period - utility of 4 or 5 seats. So all this nonsense about the M5 being overpriced because a performance-orientated super/track car can best it for less than the M5 is pointless.

Back on topic: I think $7300 is not that bad if you remove the ugly wheels so you are looking $6kish. I would do the competition package but i want independent review of "improved steering" with the package.

Comfort Access would be the only feature I wanted in the Executive Package. $5,500 is a lot of juice for that one feature, especially one that used to be a standalone option not too long ago on other BMWs.

I wonder if anyone has figured out how to retrofit CA yet...

Neither. You're getting something in between. The sport exhaust that's part of the Competition Package is a different exhaust than the standard one that comes with the stock M5, but probably not as aggressive as the standalone M Performance Exhaust that was announced a few weeks ago.
