SpeedProtocol (Droner) F10 M5 Build Thread
Hey everyone,
I am starting a build/pictures thread on my '14 BMW M5. I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. I decided to finally just start. I started several social media pages. I am an IT professional by trade, so SpeedProtocol seemed like the perfect name for a car channel. Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/speedprotocol/ Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/SpeedProtocol So far I have done mostly maintenance. Oil, spark plugs, air filter, Maf cleaning, alignment, ISTA scans, new MP4S tires, and new rotors. Mods so far: PPF Front half of car Carbotech 1521 pads Soul Performance Exhaust

Welcome and cant wait to see the progress.
I'm also in the IT field as well haha. As for cameras, I personally have a sony a7ii but I'd also recommend a Canon T7i as a good starting camera. |

Thanks for the IG add.
I'm looking at the sony A6600 and sigma lenses. Really disappointed in the black friday deals of everything i looked at. Price history sites on the internet don't tell lies. |

I'd recommend checking out the A7ii as well. Had it for about a year and love it. I just got a Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens last week and works really well. Still need to play with it some more.

I was saving for a house so I had to press pause on the mods. That finally happened and I have a two car oversized garage. Currently doing some renovations and I have to build out the garage, but hopefully soon I can focus on getting the car where I want it to be..
I did end up blacking out the grills, side vents, door trim, and m5 badge. Most recently I added project gamma intakes.

Update:
Wrapped the Vbars. Went ahead and got new grills and side vents because My previous wrap job wasn't holding up. Very cheap on alibaba and surprising quality. Likely where all the expensive ones that you buy on car vendor sites source them from anyways. Did a little BPM tune.... RIP Traction. Ran the half mile @ Shift S3ctor Just ordered a shitload of maintenance stuff ill be doing (trans, diff, oil) and some lighting upgrades. Finally got the turbo coolant leak! Ordered parts for that. Oh yeah, and a new battery. It made it since 2016 without any issues. The tune flashing made it an issue at a wonderful moment. I'm sure I was Mikes favorite f10 tune.

Turbo coolant lines fixed. https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1975237
A great maintenance haul is waiting to go in: -oil and filter -transmission filters, pan, fluid -gear oil -brake fluid -coolant flush -turbo coolant pump -ngk spark plugs -eldor coils I had a misfire at WOT so Ive already changed the coils and plugs. Originally I ordered the original Bosch coils. These turned out to be the "made in Slovenia" ones. Ive read too many reviews about dead coils from the factory. After doing some research I decided to upgrade to the Eldor coils. Eldor Coils - 12138657273 NGK - 97506 A word about the fitment: Since the Eldor coils are thicker I wasn't sure if they were seating all the way down inside the spark plug tube. They would barely lip over the spark plug tube at first. They didn't seat as far as the Bosch coils did. But if you compare everything, the NGK plugs are slightly longer than the factory plugs and the eldor coils sit slightly higher, I was concerned about this when I was installing them. It turned out this was ok. I just used a bit of dielectric grease around the lip of the eldors to make sure I seated them as far down as I could. If you feel around the outside of the lip of the coil with your hand, the spark plug tube should make it about half way up inside the rubber lip on the coil. Tuner advised .024 gap. Have yet to go WOT yet but everything seems to be running good.

awesome maintenance haul indeed!
what was your mileage? had dct and diff been done before? i'm planning to do a similar update in spring; mine will be ~28K. did mike @ bpm say to go to .024 on the ngks? most stage 1 that I've talked to, and including mine on bm3, are gapped to .022. glad to hear it's running well!

Here is an update from march.
The turbo coolant pump was getting a little loud so I decided to swap it and do a coolant flush. I discovered yet another coolant leak so I decided to replace the 90 degree rubber hose on the coolant pump with an HPS hose(Pain in the ass to get this to fit). During the Installation I broke another plastic little tube hose(again!@#@!#). I was able to repair this with more HPS hose. Now it was time to drain both coolant systems. I pulled the radiator fan so I could detach the main radiator hose. I pulled the radiator hose on both of the low temp radiators in the bumper to drain the low temp system. Word of advice: A heat gun is your friend getting these quick connects back on. After everything was drained I vacuum filled the system and completed the venting procedure. No more leaks. Turbo pump is quiet. Feels like it pumps stronger now too. Everything is great 4 months later. And I finally got around to changing the rear diff fluid. I also go a new underhood light.

Minor update.
Finally got around to bleeding the brakes. Changed the power steering reservoir fluid for the second time. I'm going to do this often instead of draining the whole rack. Its a pain in the ass to drain because you need to remove the stiffening plate under the car. Currently I'm upgrading the control arms with new arms/monoballs. I replaced the thrust arms but I think its the other set of lower control arms that I actually NEED to replace. I will make a separate post about this when its completed. Including some preview pictures of some of the other goodies going on the car. And some things are still in the mail. I got a new job that was a MASSIVE pay raise so she may be getting a lot of new upgrades here in the future.

And I really hated that BMW used inverted torx for the thrust arm bolt. PS: congrats on the job! |
