RPiM5 your calculations are all correct and we can all look and analyze my decisions in all sort of ways lol
The way it makes sense in my head financially is like this. June of 2012 I had the option to buy a brand new M5 for $105k or a great deal on a very light use 550 for $54k i made the decision to go with the 550 now 10 months later after spending $17k on performance I realize I need the M5. Today I spent $89k on the M5 I could have gotten 10 months ago, yes I missed out in 10 months of driving the M5 however I got to play with a cool 550 which my wife will now enjoy and since 10 months ago the M5 would have been $16k more than what I just spent.. GUESS WHAT! I now have $16k that I can spend in performance on the M5 1000hp here we come!!! lol Honestly sometimes is hard to justify buying any of these cars.. We will always loose I just try and find ways to loose a bit less each time.. |

HAHAHA Jason! Here is my input, we first drove my car then I drove his car. It was safe to say the M5 was much faster. The transmission in the 550 had me very confused, the DCT in the M5 is just insane as we all know. But, man after driving his car, the exhaust Juan had on his 550 was absolutely sick! It seriously sounded louder then an AMG, the M5 was more of a "Screamer", even though it wasn't barking as loud. We drove by a cop directing traffic and he immediately turned around, LMAO. I seriously can't wait to do a full exhaust with straight pipes. As soon as the M5 shifted it was gone, the 550 definitely held it's ground, mainly I think because of traction, but I do think his 550 might of had more torque. My Rear tires are almost out and want to Atleast get 10k miles, before I change them, LOL. In MDM, I have been getting massive amounts of wheelspin in 1st and 2nd, I actually have found my car picking up better going with traction on until I hit 3rd gear. After 100, the M5 is definitely gone, But I was so impressed with his Stage 4 550, thing was definitely fast. Can't wait to see what you do to your New Blue M5!!

It took you letting me drive your car for 10 minutes to convince me that I couldn't live any longer without an M5.. YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! Thank you so much! And to think I almost cancelled our meet, since I had a bit of a crazy night on saturday lol thank god I didnt!! |

This thread is what this forums are all about! Just two enthusiasts enjoying cars and testing them out! No stupid comments and no putting down people. Congrats on the new blue beast, it is truly an amazing car. I might do the same and just say f$#£ it and get one. I know after driving rob m5's car for a couple hours, I actually almost cried when getting back in my car haha.

I know what you mean. When I was at the ///M Performance School last month, I got to sit in the passenger seat while the instructor drove it around the track. It's almost too fast to describe!

I had a modded E39 M5 in the past, and I couldn't improve on 13.4 even with BFG drag radials. My GS460 does 13.9 with street tires! So yes, as things stand, i might not stand a chance against a stock M5 on the 1/4 mile. Just curious, what ET does a stock E39 M5 do?
