Difficult Launch Control !!!!! Yeah right!!
I couldn't believe myself
I never even tried to launch it thinking of how cumbersome and complicated it would be besides who needs it with Torque being at that low RPM!! But why I am writing this!! REASON IS!! I believe we owe BMW and M division an apology for accusing them of complicating things when it comes to How To Launch Control M5!! Goodness !! Program M1 or M2 to: S3 and DSC Completely Off and then At any stop light it is 2 seconds !! M button twice to confirm DSC alert! Without even looking! No brake needed at level and actually too much brake will kill it and if you lighten up your foot it shows the Launch Control Alert Flag and if you push on the brake hard you see it go away!! Brakes are not needed! Period! All you need is that programmed M button S3+DSC Off x twice and Shift Knob forward and then gas pedal up to RPM 3000 and then let go of shift then!! and you can do it as many times as you want like a P car - I was actually laughing at how easy it was to do it at every stop light and even every time car came to a stop like probably 2 sec period!! M division nailed it on the head but they just didn't advertise it well enough and let Magazine People Smear their Launch Control !! My analogy for it! Like your Garage Home link and how cumbersome steps can be to program it but once you have it all programmed in one button you completely forget how hard it was first time! ! My 2 cents! And yes I prefer it this way over a separate dedicated button for it because it makes sense that it's button is called M2 for instance and then it is your shift knob!!!

yes you can do it fairly quickly with some practice. i didnt know you didnt need the brake at all. but still it doesnt work every time. so thats the fail for me. your engine temp still needs to be in a specific range ... so if you dont know if that condition is satisifed whats the point.
and what the hell are you at doing LC at stop lights? lol |

My point wasn't about actually launching it but rather about how easy it can be to get the car to be ready for it and I didn't actually go with the launch a single time at any of those stops but it was fun proving it was that simple! But now I have to admit that I have no idea how many would fail if I actually did let go of the Knob in all cases! Like 10 out of 10 or 5 out of ten - Yeah true process could be simple but success can be not 100%!! Genius me... Forgot about that - LOL |

Sorry I read your post and I still don't understand how to use launch control. Its very complicated. I need to have the youtube video on in my car to use launch control.
They should just have installed a button for it.

Well in case you are not kidding - Steps again to set up to M2 button: 1. Car warmed more than 6 minutes of good use 2. Car in Neutral and push MDM once the long press after that to get Traction Completely Off 3. Then put car in manual mode to see #1 in Instrument cluster not D1 but just 1 4. Now use Drivelogic to max #3 Whew - Now Looong Press M2 Then you are set for the easiest M5 launches ever - NOW everytime you are level and press shift Knob forwards you See Flag of LC on and push gas then let go... Steps weren't simple but once stored to M2 it's a no Brainer As from that moment on you have M2 to push twice back to back to confirm knowing car in DSC off and then you & the shift knob forwards and gas nothing else but letting go of the Knob to rocket it -; ) Hope this helps sir |

My M2 button is for LC as well. Have only used it a handful of times, but every time it has hooked up really well! Though I probably looked like a massive douche flying away from intersections

But sure enough that Launch control is so easy! I can literally Conjure it up - Everytime I stop and then abort it.. Amazing how simple it is Juat push programmed M2 twice and Knob forwards and that's it!!!! How complicated that is Or how simpler could a LC could be.. A button yeah may be.. But M5 LC is no hassle |

glad you post this thread, I never understand how could owners think LC is complicated in m5. Journalists often complain about complicated setting options and LC procedure, they probably have nothing else to say in order to attract hater's attention. It also shows their IQ is not sufficient for driving this car.

Still love my M5 though. @OP yes LC is not difficult, especially after you understand the prerequisites for it. You don't need to put the car in neutral. Just DSC off, DCT in setting 3. Use or domt use the brake depending on surface level, and hold DCT lever to downshift and slowly accelerate.. car shouldn't move. Floor it, let go of DCT to engage LC. Let off of throttle to disengage LC.
