I had a look at the pads, BMW changed to the pad with the Weights/absorbers in about April 2014. The pads before that did not have them. If you anyone had their pads changed since then on the earlier cars they would have the new pads From April 2014 Pad Pre-April 2014 pad

Unfortunately, I doubt this is what is causing my squeal since mine goes away if I bed in the brakes and comes back after a wash or rain. I think mine is caused by deposits on the discs.

Hi,
I am in Canada and have MY14 LCI M5, I called the dealer reference SIB340614, and they couldn't find such service bulletin for my VIN. I called BMW Canada and no luck either, as they couldn't find anything in their system. Do you happen to have the official SIB information in addition to the SIB number? I'm thinking of an BMW USA recall pdf that detail the fix, so I can take it to the dealer. Thanks

Unfortunately my access agreement says I cannot post them up here. It basically says the dealer must remove the pads and check if any of the the vibration absorbers are loose. If a loose one is found they must replace the pads. If no SIB for this exists in Canada yet they wont do it for free. They may be testing if it works in the USA first before releasing it in Canada and the rest of the world..

You can see in the picture from the thread mentioned above what the dealer did in the US for Nqwjx30
Pads checked, loose absorber found, pads replaced http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...8#post17198128

Just had service done on mine - late production 2013 MY (Steel brakes) - SA did find the SIB...but told me my pads were not of the type indicated on the SIB . So the squeaking was completely normal.
So...after NOT using the oil I asked them to use for the change ...they sent me on my way...I have had nothing but screaming brakes since then! They actually got worse! To be fair...it's been single digits around here and I have not had a chance to "re-bed" them in - but SA reports only a test drive was done with a brake fluid change. I've tried contacting SA for his response but so far it's been phone tag. So...IMO SIB listed might help for a subset of y'all out there...but not for me. My brakes were bearable before...but they border on horrible (noise wise) now. |

I took my car in for service and asked them to do the SIB. Picked up the car a few days later and got half a block before I realized the brakes sounded worse, not better. Looked at my printout and sure enough the dreaded "Could not replicate".
Drove into the dealership the next morning and grabbed the shop foreman for a ride. We got half a block before he stated that mine was the worst he had ever heard. He wasn't sure if they would have to change just pads or pads and rotors. They have had my car for several days now so I assume they are still trying to chase it down. On a side note, they gave me a 428i Convertible which has been great since it has been in the mid 70's all weekend! |

Not sure anybody really knows. In my case...I have a late year 2013 w steel brakes...and my SA told me the pads I have were not part of the SIB...so they didn't do anything except the regular service/change brake fluid.

CFisher, have you noticed them much worse when it's been cold out? Mine have been horrific on my M6 the last few weeks (consequently, since the dealer said they "cleaned up" the pads and rotors).
