guys I'm sorry i get the incredible engineering and the amazing performance but the tt has just gotten way to expensive. The car isn't remotely exotic and to be honest though its the king of the 911 hill the body style is a dime a dozen. I went to cars and coffee on Sunday and there were more 911's than vettes and mustangs. Thats exotic money being thrown around in this thread 12c,gallardo, f430, r8, and that 3600 payment is sniffing an italia

You're right but think it is the market economics of demand vs supply at play. I also personally don't think the TTS is worth 200K, maybe 150-170K but then a lot of potential buyers think otherwise, so, it remains in hot demand and the excellent engineering just helps its case. I do sincerely wish they would uplevel the interiors in future.

Like Vic55 said earlier in the thread, there's an 11% diff between invoice and msrp. Cost to manufacture might be a further 10-20% below the published invoice given their economies of scale and the amortization over the long life of assembly operations.

For some perspective (not msrps but my best recollection of what I paid):

I bought a 996TT (optioned heavily) in 2003 for 120k
I bought a 997.1TT (optioned heavily) in 2007 for 133k
I bought a 997.2TT (medium options) in 2011 for 139k
I bought a 991 TT-S (medium options) in 2014 for 183k

The transition is real but so are the changes in hp, tq, suspension, chassis, electronics, and the list goes on and on. The 991 is such a better car than the 996 but the 996 was incredible for the time it was purchased. I dont see the next iterations of the Porsche Turbo going down in price unfortunately.

@Vic55 , have you seen any recent Manheim data on '14/'15 TTS's? I've been wanting the 991 TTS, but the year 1 depreciation hit is more than I can stomach.

I'm on the sidelines until I can pick one up for $135K.

Or, until I can find a GT3 allocation....

Thanks, that is very helpful. At around 180-200K range, I'm thinking (maybe) a lightly optioned R8 Plus might be possible whenever the 2017 comes out.

I would choose the R8. I don't care if the Turbo S is the faster car... I love my 2012 R8 V10 and know that the next gen will be awesome.

I keep looking at a California

There are some nice 2014's for sale out there. Got any Manheim data on them?

There are two at Ferrari of Houston and I like the Silver one better but it looks like the red one has more options and the better knock down on depreciation.

No, the only data is what I posted above so those must be trade in or private/wholesale acquistions.

I thought Coldlist got a California at auction. Course I am looking at slightly used, only a year old. I guess you more or less have to get those at the dealer. How do you bargain on a Ferrari? They don't ever seem to drop the prices listed, they just let the car sit forever it seems.

He did get his Cali at the auction. I thought you were asking if I had Manheim data on the two cars you linked above. I just realized I missed your subject title in the post.

2014 Cali's (sorry for the format issue, weird on my laptop) not alot of sales over the past year:

Ferraris almost always sell at the dealer level and its a grind to get pricing down since most dealers dont have a lot of them and will hold them for gross. There has only been one recent 458 coupe sale at Manheim and it was a 2013 with over 5k miles selling for 236k I think. I got an offer for msrp on mine (2014 with 2500 miles) but Im holding out

the 2014 is the last of the N/A engine and both the 13's and 14's are called the Cali 30's because they both got the 30 hp bump.

I dont think there is a such thing as a girlie Ferrari. I love all of their models but some more than others. Im a big fan of the Cali after seeing it in person alot lately especially with the top UP!!!

Yeah, that's what I was looking for, the 30 extra hp with the NA sound and I like it top up too. It is their best selling model so obviously it has a wide appeal and it's the most affordable.

Related, but slightly OT - apologies - but I was shocked to learn today that a 1997/98 911 Turbo S is worth north of 300k these days. Apparently they only made a few hundred and they have in skyrocketed in value in the last few years.

Yes, esp in Europe the demand for air cooled 993s is crazy.

Those are one of my favourites, I wanted to get one but then I moved back to Asia so never had the opportunity.

I have been keeping a close eye on them since the late 90s, back then they can be bought for 100k, but I stopped keep tracking of the prices at about 200k, so they are now over 300k? Haha.

It's nice to live in the USA, land of the cheapest car prices in the world! Gotta find a way to move back.......

I would bet that applies equally well to any nation that actually produces good cars for export. Not too many countries in that category. Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Japan and the US and I don't know about France but maybe a few Peugeots are exported. By far the US has the largest car manufacturing industry in the world so that is the best reason we have the lowest car prices. I don't own any American cars but I do like the cheaper prices I get to pay for the good imports.
