Comfort Access special boot dance.
Hi Chaps,
To those with comfort access, have you perfected the special BMW boot opening dance yet , the one where you have to waggle, wiggle, throw in, throw out your right leg ?. Have you the ability, to walk up to the boot, then do it once, and it opens ?, or are you stood there like Michael Flatley, trying to open it ?, regards, SIMON .. |

Yes, once you figure out the right positioning it gets very easy. For US cars, align your belt buckle with the right side of the license plate standing about 8 - 10 inches from the rear bumper (for European cars you may need to position slightly differently given the different size of your license plate). Then make a slow in-and-out (not side-to-side) kicking action with your right leg.

Thanks AGS,
I didnt know about this feature, until i was reading the manual last night, and almost thought it was a wind up. I had to have a go today, and sure enough, i got it to work. I will need a bit of practice at this, but it didnt half make me smile whilst i was trying, a great feature to have some fun with, regards, SIMON. |

I really don't think there is a special trick to make it work -- you just have to follow exactly the instructions -- just stay back facing the trunk preferably in the middle and put a foot in and under then out, no foot wiggling, no side swinging, etc. just in then out, that's it. It works everytime. I believe the only time it will not work even if you follow instructions is if you forgot that you have the lock on.

No problems on my side with using it. Here is one way to 'visualize' the motion you need. Pretend a soccer ball is rolling under the car at a controlled rate following the path of the drive train. Now swing your foot forward as if you wanted to touch the soccer ball with the bottom front of your foot such that it will roll back the direction it came. You aren't trying to stop the ball so you don't keep your foot up, and you aren't kicking the ball as if to send it flying: so it is a nice smooth and controlled motion in and out under the bumper.

Works great for me, but I think this feature was developed by a canine. Every time I'm in my garage and close to the car and the dog walks by wagging his tail the trunk opens. He doesn't have to do the trunk shuffle, just wag (and it's side to side) and without hesitation works perfect. I can only get it to work soccer ball style so there is something special about the wag... Woof

V helpful - I have been waggling - resulting in the boot opening & then stopping immediately, having opened 2 inches !
The Michael Flatley reference made me chuckle ! |

When I hop on one foot and use the other leg to erratically motion under my rear bumper, while sticking out my tongue and repeatedly patting myself on the top of my head - it works like a charm.
Best results are in public, around lots of people.

My comfort access - Morris dancing days are over !
The stopping a football advice works perfectly - but I have now perfected this to a single sharp Rosa Clegg action, almost imperceptible to the human eye !!! |
