DIY - Wrapped M5 Side Markers
Hello M5'ers,
I just picked up an M5. First thing's first, I wrapped the side markers and door handles. Material: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._detailpages00 You just need a small utility blade and heat gun to do the actual wrapping. Once the side markers are off, you can use a small flat head screw driver to pry a bunch of tabs to separate the chrome and matte black plastic apart. This is one of the most straight forward DIY wrap out there. You only need to heat the corners, everything else just use your fingers. Difficulty level of wrap on a scale of 1-10, this is a 2. Let me know if you have any questions. More mods to come shortly. Cheers, Jimmy

No need to remove. Just cut the vinyl close to the size, peel, use your finger to press from the center out, then use your nails to press in the edge. Take a small utility knife and cut, leave enough room so there isn't any chrome showing. No heat required for the door handles.

U should have used the gloss wet carbon fiber 2x2 wrap. Would match your RW rear diffuser.

Thanks JNoSol for sharing! I've never done wrapping before but sounds like a fun little project. Is there a write up on how to do the actual wrapping you can point me at?

For the side markers, you only need heat to stretch around the corners. On heating, always use a low setting and keep the heat source 6-8inch away. Only flash it with heat for 5sec. There are tons of 3M wrap tutorial vids on YouTube, but these are entry level wrapping DIY so I would just play around with it until you get it. More info below. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1180810 (post #6 is helpful for simple wrap)

You were right about the carbon fiber being less forgiving than black matte/gloss. There was one tab on the chrome piece that was a real PITA to remove from the black housing
I used the excess carbon fiber from the 'donut hole' in the chrome trim to wrap the chrome door handles (I hate waste). I'm not too sure if I like the handles yet, I'll have to see them in the sunlight. |

I know this is a wrapped side marker thread but I wanted to share my wrapped kidney chrome as I was motivated to do it after the side markers. This is me going against JnoSol's wishes, but I think it looks good
