Introspective Question

Are members of this forum/site more critical of BMW than other people in other automobile forums? I do recall some Porsche members losing their $h!t when they decided to come out with a SUV and 4-door sedan, but it seems that there are way more negative comments by members in this forum (especially the F10 M5 forum) than other manufacturer's forum sites. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we shouldn't discuss what we don't like about a particular product. I'm specifically referencing how we talk about the product we don't like. I get it...most of us want BMW to be whatever it is we think they should be. However, they are in the business of making money and we consumers are in the business of spending money. So everyone has choices to make based on their interest.

Of course we are more critical! It's BMW's fault though. BMW has built way more of a following than probably that of any other manufacturer ever. I mean we don't see a Bimmerfest equivalent event where 20,000 cars show up for Ford, or Porsche, or Lamborghini. Every. Single. Year!

BMW really nailed it in their old marketing days with the old but now gone motto of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" and this refuses to go away. So I think that is what people most think of when they think BMW and wish it to still be that.

There will always be dissent or haters on any forum, but for the BMW crowd it's just bigger. Especially on the M3/M4 side of the forum where the general crowd is much younger.

We can disagree with what BMW is doing, but it is important to be respectful of one another both virtually in these online forums and face to face in real life. Now this doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to speak our mind when it comes to disappointments in products and the future designs of BMW, so long as we give educated opinions and not ramblings based on feelings.

If you are talking about how there has not been a whole lot of positive reaction lately to some of BMW's latest offerings, such as the F90 M5, the new X2 and X3, the G30 5-Series, or even iDivision cars, well I think it's just probably a good indication that a lot of us are long time BMW owners and are resistant to change. The new Millennials probably don't know any better and just accept what is going on or don't care. Most of the Millennials I know and the kids born after the year 2000 who are now reaching the age to get their drivers licenses don't seem to care much about cars. Besides the market is changing, Uber and Lyft are also changing things, there are now less young drivers than ever before. I predict products like ///M cars, and Lamborghini's and Porsche's will be less desirable to consumers in the future, because why spend all that money, when you can just get a $5 dollar Uber ride to your destination?

The world is changing, sports cars days are probably numbered as everything seems to be going electric in the future. Forums like these will probably be filled with old-timers in the future lamenting the good old days when the sound of a 5.0L V10 in a family sedan was something to truly experience.

The illusion of choice is dwindling though. One day all new cars may be electric and people will be arguing on the forum who's car charges up the fastest or who modified their electric motors to make 2,000hp. Our roads will be filled with the silent movement of nothing but tires rolling against pavement from all of the electric cars, except for lone RPiM5 and his straightpiped Twin Turbo V8 M5 causing most people to shake their heads in disgust and disapproval of a time when dinosaur powered cars ruled the earth.

Ha! You just should've said, "Get off my lawn" to the youngsters in your Clint Eastwood voice!
