DCT Fluid Change

Out of curiousity, for those that have done a DCT fluid change in the US or Canada. How much did you guys pay? One shop local to me is asking $1700CAD which seems high because I think years ago when I got it done for M3 it was about $1400 CAD. I'm considering driving over the border to Seattle if the savings is worth it.

If one had a lift it is something that could be done yourself, but if you could find a good German specialty place that had the ability to flush the fluid for you, I would be open to a couple of hours of labor for that.

When shopping for quotes, ask them what specific parts they are going to use, particularly what fluid. ECS has a kit that will replace the entire pan, gasket, filter, new plugs, and of course 5L of Pentosin DCTF-1 for $472 USD.

That's a great tip. I did know they make a kit. I need to double check the parts because one shop quoted me a different part number that is used in 2013s in the US. Would suck to buy the kit and find out the parts don't work with 2012s in Canada. Also isn't 5L too little fluid? The video I watched showed that it used about 6L

Bmw and Gertrag have now changed to Pentosin DCTF +1 as its a higher specification oil (and this was a mandated BMW Service Bulletin ).

They recommend the use of the new fluid for our DCT if you change the fluid in our dual clutch gearbox.

If your going to do this right be mindful of garages/independent’s/one-line Bmw Spares using/providing the “old” specification oil.

I'm trying to learn more about this because the DCTF+1 no longer appears to even exist. If you Google search the BMW p/n for it, 83222446673, ECS tuning, for example, says it's no longer available. Nobody that I can find even stocks the +1. If you go to Pentosin's website, all they list is the -1. I'm thinking maybe whatever was in the +1 either became part of what is put into every -1 bottle, or there requirement for it was dropped altogether.

In the video, Motul Multi DCTF fluid was used. That's readily available for about $20 a quart. I was considering that.
