It depends where you live and as far as I know there is no set mileage as such by BMW to change them. They go by inspection, how dirty they are and if the element is turning brittle and at 3 years I'd change them. Part no,s are Mahle LX 2074 (LH) and LX2075 (RH). OE of course. |

Don't think so on UK cars and not expecting to find any when I change them, fitted to all US cars and California cars may have extra charcoal canisters also. Not sure how it benefits engine intake but micro filters have them to stop gases getting into the car.

OE air filters for M5 are made by Mahle, sounds like the old trick paper M sticker pulling in more money for them.I paid £25 for the pair.

Glad you mentioned changing them as it wasn't on my radar but after 3 years maybe should have been but only covered 15,000 so not too urgent |

Make sure you have a short stubby turning ratchet for the torx screw under the tube pipe before you start.

They sure needed replacing after just 15k miles, the old ones were black when put up to the sky comparing with the new ones. The mini ratchet was needed for the one screw where the screw driver type could not angle reach holding flex pipe away while it was done up.We see now why BMW charge the labour as it's not that easy. |
