An M8 CS would likely just have a bigger wing instead of the usual gurney and special wheels:
So if this happens to be an M8, it is more likely an early CSL prototype, with the rear seating deletion and rollcage addition allowing for this cool visual trick on the rear windows. Though paradoxically it still lacks a large rear wing and perhaps a few other aero bits and pieces that would be expected from a CSL. Last edited by advantage20; 08-25-2020 at 10:24 AM.. |

My guess: twin-turbo V8 with Hybrid add-on.
Most likely a powertrain mule for consideration in the next-gen M5.

What if it is something to battle the C8 vette? Slot it above the M4 but below a 8 series? Maybe price it like an 8 series? So like a i8 replacement

If they are making a mid-engined car the last chassis they should be using is an 8 series... they're going to have to rein in that big (long) nose first. The car is far too big for a mid-engine setup (and considering the nose isn't housing an engine, it serves no purpose). If this is a prototype, I sure hope they plan on reworking the chassis because using an 8 series would just be lazy and counter productive. Gives hope to M enthusiasts though. Excited to see if this develops further.

Maybe. I think the fact that it doesn't have a "hybrid test vehicle" badge does lead me to believe that this isn't an i8 successor or M Next production vehicle. It definitely could be the M8 CSL since that would have no back seats but then the changes to the cooling system and front end do make me question that. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I guess that makes the potential nameplate and engine choice even more intriguing. Any idea when we will see this in production?
