got some questions!!
looking to buy a 2014+ f10 m5. probably under 65k miles. just wanted to ask some f10 owners how the reliability was? i’ve heard some good but also a lot of bad about these engines. good power, sound, and good daily drivers but also heard about them always breaking and also lots of oil consumption issues. let me know y’all’s experience with y’all’s f10 and how y’all’s reliability has been so far!

Owned mine for 7+ years and been a tank. Just crossed 50k miles in 6 speed.

2014 F10 M5 Competition Package. It has 82K miles and has a BM3 Stage 1, 93 octane tune since 65K miles. Broke the axles after running an 11:40 ET @ 124.53 mph (this is without downpipes or exhaust). I upgraded to the DSS Axles.
The car has been reliable. With approximately 650HP and drag racing it a lot; the axles were taking a beating. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5W30 and change oil every 7,500 miles. I also let it warmup enough before driving aggressively. These F10 M5s are made to be driven aggressively, otherwise they fail (Just my 2 cents). Go for it - 2014 F10 M5 is a great car. If you can afford it, the F90 with AWD is slightly better. |

so far I've put ~22K miles on my 2013 (@ ~52K miles total), including 2 days on track. A few minor things, nothing major. The first two happened within a few months of getting the car. I've always wondered if they were accelerated by the car being 6.5 years old at that point and sitting on a dealer lot through a Michigan winter, during which time I assume it was rarely -if ever- driven.
Otherwise it's about letting it warm up, doing oil changes frequently enough, and changing the plugs and coils. This car seems to have a tendency to wear coils out faster than other cars. There are some horror stories of rod bearing failures but they seem isolated. Certainly nothing like on the previous gen.
