0W-40 vs 5W-30

Hi everyone. As discussed on some pther thread. What oil should i use? I live in a pretty hot tropical climate (Indonesia).

Ive tried both oil, 0w-40 and 5w-30 on my m5 f10. Both have no issues. Currently running amsoil european 5w-30. Before, its mobil 1 0w-40 ultimate. Didnt feel any difference in terms of performance. Just noticed a slight whine that appears after using 5w-30. Workshop said its normal.

I asked workshops and dealers all over my city, they said m5 f10 s63 engines require 5w-30. 0w-40 might harm the engine long term. So now im confused on which to use.

Share your thoughts please! Thanks!

In your climate I would take 5w40. It's recommended by BMW for tropical climates.

If you just got a fresh oil change with 5w-30 then just drive it until the next oil change and then I would highly recommend swap to 5w-40 since you live in a hot climate region. I use 5w-40 Liqui moly high tech for mine but any brand that meets the spec for bmw will be fine. If you need more info about oil, I recommend you head over to bobistheoilguy forum and check them out.
