2012 BMW M5 - Reliability?
Hi everyone Im looking to buy a 2012 BMW M5 with 130000km (80k miles) Japan spec, need some advices from Pre-LCI BMW M5 F10 (2012 or 2013) owners, has your M5 been reliable? ran into major problems? what are the best oils to use etc. I just plan to use this as a weekend car and just keeping it stock as its already a plenty of power for me.
I heard some people had their engine seized with early models (from worn rod bearings) so I think its a good idea to change the rod bearings as preventative maintenance. Sorry to be a noob here as it will be my first M car, any help is appreciated. |

I have owned my 2012 F10 M5 for 4 years now. The odometer now reads around 214,000 km. At around 170,000 km, the car was tuned to 720 hp/1080 Nm with hardware and software adjustments.
I had the connecting rod bearing shells replaced at 200,000 km. They showed minor wear, but I could probably have driven them for tens of thousands of kilometers. I use Castrol 5W40 M engine oil. I change it every 5000 km. |
