I bought the car for myself as a Christmas gift and have been deliriously. Happy with it until I read your thread here… Now I feel like the redheaded stepchild.

I think the fender badges are tacky but it’s your car. BMW puts enough m badges of m performance cars they don’t need two more. Just another thing to get snagged on when waxing the car. Your exhaust speaks for the car enough. Would love a 550 in my garage. Been eyeing x5 M50s to replace my x3 M40 lately

2400kg no problem we make it 750hp.

750hp traction problems we make it xdrive and even heavier!

Lots of people just look at the horsepower numbers. And it works if you look at sales numbers.

there are hardly any bmw owners here that are actual enthusiasts who look at other brands.

plenty of lightweight sports cars existed during bmw's "peak" years but not many here could afford a porsche.

You think that they are adding concrete to the cars to make them heavy because why not?
Come on use that brain muscle of yours. Every vehicle is getting larger and heavier. Combination of legal, safety, and environmental mandates around the world and customer demands.
All that tech and performance comes at a cost. Weight and size.
Keeping your family safe comes at a cost
Weight and size.
Trying to reduce pollution and save money on fuel comes at a cost.
Weight and size due to batteries, electrical systems and emissions systems.
And yes you can reduce the amount that a vehical is growing in size and weight by paying more money for it. That's how Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari ect... keeps the weight under check. However even that's changing now with more and more heavy hybrid systems.

ev's as well as stoplight drag racing are to blame for this... the inevitable youtube races that would have taken place as a result of evs walking supposed M derived motorsports cars would have been a real bad look...

instead bmw just went the way of everyone... let's add as much power as possible and fix all traction and stability issues w weight and awd... i always laughed that if you go back 10 years ago bmw was the only one left w an original car... RWD + DCT... this was for both m3 and m5... when audi and benz already had awd auto versions... i applauded bmw for sticking more to their ethos and then i said... next gen this is all gone and i can give you 20 reasons why... i also said... everyone will make the same car lol... i was right

I don't think they have a choice because the vast majority of the current crop of performance cars are heavy. Many in these new generations have no idea how awesome it is to drive a light, manual car like a Miata.

Well M Sport owners don't have to justify it because BMW has done it for them by classifying M Sport cars under the M division. Don't blame the customers when the manufacturer made the change.

I've only owned "full M" cars (M6 and M2 CS) and I enjoyed them, but when I was in the market for an SUV I found I preferred the X4 M40i and X6 M60i over the full M versions. I have less of a tolerance for stiff suspension in a luxury SUV and I don't see the point in sacrificing ride quality for track performance when I'll never track an SUV. The M60i also has the S68 and something the full M doesn't get which is rear-wheel steering. If BMW would have labeled the M60i as X5/6M and left the current X5/6M Competition as the top M version, I doubt anyone would complain.

Because no one likes old stuff. The Motorola flip phone and the Nokia slim phones used to fit in our jean pocket nicely, today it’s a challenge with smartphones. but I don’t see people complain about iPhones for that reason. Yesterday we drove cars that run on gas, today we have self driving electric cars. It’s just how the world works. Whether we like it or not, we don’t get to choose, but eventually we adapt and realize how much better (more value )it is than before
