Hello Everyone....
I recently acquired one of my dream spec f10 m5s, comp pack, individual azurite black metallic paintwork, Eisenmann exhaust and fully optioned apart from night vision. I am at awe of how the car looks, drives, and feels. The car has about 108k miles. I want to get the rod bearings done as preventative maintenance and valve stem seals as the car burns a quart oil maybe every 1k miles, slight cloud of smoke from exhaust pulling away from stop, and smell oil burning when doing pulls/ downshifting. Instead of going to the dealer or an indy that will cost me an arm and a leg I was looking to have an independent mechanic do the labor for these jobs. I was wondering if anyone has done this job and can recommend a group kit for parts like for valve stem seals and all necessary gaskets, as well as rod bearings, oil pan gaskets, etc. I was hoping to keep the car for a couple of years until I get an f90, or just plain sell the car. |

Not sure that I can help, but I'll comment.
Pretty rare color. Do you have a check engine light, will it pass smog so you can register it? I bought mine used in 2017 with 60k on the clock. I now have 155k. I don't know if the prior owner did the rod bearings on my M5 or if it was recalled during the original owner's tenure. I never had any smoke issues out of the exhaust. I always use the same Indy in So. Cal that I trust and that's what I'd do. I can't give any solid advice, but good luck. I'll add that if it were me, if it passes smog in CA, that's good enough for me and I'm most likely not spending multiple thousands on preventative maintenance. Every once in a blue I get a drivetrain malfunction and it goes away on a restart. Best to run the codes just to see what happened. Did you get a list or documentation on the prior owners maintenance history? I recall around the miles that you have it at, that was the time that a lot of stuff came up. It'll vary by car and how hard it was driven, but brakes and plugs/coil packs, then high pressure fuel pump needed replacing at that time. On these mentioned items, I just wait until they fail. I think I even have a post in my history which noted my timing of replaced items.

Nice pic, I don't think I've seen this color on the F10 M5, I saw it on M760s when I was looking for one and I picked the carbon black for my G12 V12. In the sun, CB and AB both have a nice dark blue shade. My F10 M5 is Alpine White, it's pretty boring.

Such an amazing colour. 1 Litre/1k miles is ok mine does every 500km just make sure you don’t send her a little too hard when the oil is close to the minimum mark and always top up when it hits there don’t run it low on oil and change them every 5000km make sure you check the amount of metal flakes in oil during the oil change and you’re golden.

The best way to tell if turbos are bad is to remove the downpipe exhaust and look inside the exhaust side of turbo. Thick black oil is usually visible if seals are bad. From my experience when driving and coming to a stop, smoke coms from exhaust its turbos. You can always do a pressure check to see if exhaust seals are leaking. 1 Liter every 1K miles i think is a little too excessive.

Im thinking about wrapping my Singapore Gray in white. I've always loved white paint on a car.

When I had my e46 M3 which was titanium silver, I remember purchasing a set of 19's in black from a member of M3 forums in 2007 and he had an alpine white e46 M3 and it was incredibly beautiful. Perfectly blacked out, paint was in great shape and I vowed that my next M car was going to be alpine white. When I was looking for my F10 M5 it was either going to be blue or white. Blue warranted more money, so I went with white and I have not been as excited about it as I thought I would be. I have it all blacked out with wide rims, all the trim and it's just okay. My wife thinks it's the best looking car ever, but I am not feeling it. I just like it for the performance. I'll never get rid of it at this point unless it's a total loss.
I'm in the market for an F90 M5 in blue or red. I found one 300 miles north at North State Auto, it's perfect (Rosso Corsa), but for over 95k, I'm still not ready to over pay for an F90. |

On Tuesday, I dropped off my 2014 F10 M5 Comp for a couple of items and a quote for a rod bearing kit.
I live in North Texas, specifically in the Dallas area, and visited MPorium, which is considered one of the best rod bearing specialists in Texas and one of the top in the US. The quote was $4734. I called a couple more shops (Bimmers Only, Plano, TX), and they were $5,800, and the prices only went up. Another was closer to $6K. Nowadays, the $ 2,500-$2,800 jobs are gone, and this changes the dynamics of ownership, unfortunately. My car doesn't consume or burn a drop of oil, fortunately; however, I'm at 51,000 miles, and it's starting to weigh on me. Taking out a loan to pay $120 a month for approximately 3 years seems silly. What to do, gents?!? Bite the bullet or sell a kidney, start Onlyfanz lol... |

Thank you for that. I needed to hear that from someone in a similar situation.
Yeah, I’ve done ALL maintenance possible, including DCT full service (both filters) with Ravenoil recently. I’m changing the oil more due to age than mileage. I genuinely love the vehicle, which is in pristine condition and is not leaving the family. The F90s (to me) have lost that German axe murderer persona. I was immediately jaded when I watched someone take a wrecked F90 M5 and put everything into/onto a 535 frame/body, and everything fit perfectly. Sure, it’s fast, but it’s too safe and not a brute trying to kill you anymore. Of course, this is all my opinion, which isn’t worth much. Thanks again ![]() |
