Simply awesome that Toyota is making these kind of cars in today's climate. Kudos to them, whether you love or hate the design, you have to respect the effort. Personally, I think it looks pretty amazing!

Not exactly beautiful, but cool. Love that Toyota is doing this, and especially that they're bringing out a GT3 version. Looking forwards to seeing these at the Nurburgring 24h!

At $500k they can piss off. It's a hybrid V8, a small V8 too. That's not special enough IMO.

If this was like, 75k to 90k, sure. But at the price of FIVE E-Rays? Get real.

Agree, what's the point of all this R&D at this price? So they can sell 29 of them in 3 years and be super proud of their ‘racing heritage’ after discontinuing this and every other enthusiast car they had...

You honestly think it should be priced the same as an M4?? Lol come on man!

I don't believe the $500k rumours and think it will be closer to sub-$200k ($150-175?).

Very cool under the skin. Not sure what I think of the pictures of the car. In person if I get a chance to see one is if I will like it or not.

Twin turbo and going for 650hp is not impressive. If the LFA which they briefly compare it to, well then it's going to unsellable on showroom floors and will be purchased by speculators and flipper's.

It's a Toyota. Yes, it should be priced like an M4.

It's realistically a pretty direct E-Ray competitor without a mid engine, and arguably a less illustrious racing heritage than Corvette. Those are like $100k, so this should be cheaper than that.

Hey Toyota, how about this: design this new platform to be really lightweight, drop in the good old reliable and awesome-sounding 5.0L NA V8 from the LC500, add a manual option, and sell it around $100K? See, not that hard...

I mean, that kind of is hard these days – manufacturers aren't making heavy cars for the fun of it.

If the car has too much road noise, reviewers will complain about it, so you add more sound deadening material. There's some more weight.

If the car doesn't pass safety standards, you can't sell it. If it kills people more frequently in crashes, you're going to hear about it. So you add more crumple zones, stiffer components, etc. There's some more weight.

If the car doesn't do 0-60 in three nanoseconds, the reviewers are going to complain, Internet Experts are going to trash it, etc. So you add a battery boost to goose it. Hello, more weight.

If the car is too small, too cramped, too whatever, reviewers will complain. Consumers won't buy it because they feel unsafe with all the land yachts on the road. So you make it a bit bigger. Yay, more weight.

You could make it lighter by using composite materials, etc. But uh-oh, that's going to raise the price. Which reviewers, and everyone else, are going to complain about. So you maybe don't worry so much about the weight, since at least you can sell the car.

On and on and on. I'm not saying heavy cars are good, and I'm not saying that they couldn't be somewhat lighter. But the truth is that everything that's expected in a car today necessitates them being heavier than they've been in the past. Kinda sucks, but here we are.

It sounds like you didn't consume the information. This is a Mustang GTD class car and miles away from an M4 or E-ray but most importantly, signals a renewed dedication to motorsport by Toyota.

That's a crazy take lol. You're talking about a bespoke vehicle from the ground up (including the engine) should be priced the same as an M4. Wild.

I'll give it to you on the E-Ray only because it's priced so low for what you get, but that's been the "Corvette thing" forever. Also racing heritage? Maybe for the Stingray and Z06, but the E-Ray as a Corvette model holds no heritage at all.

If Chevy was able to do ~3,600 lbs in base 6.2L V8 C8 Corvette with price starting at 60K, I'm pretty sure Toyota can do something similar if the want...

Yeah, I know, just saying they don't need to design brand new hybrid V8 TT, just use old 5.0L V8 and make it much cheaper and be actually sellable (unless all rumors are false and it's a $150K car)
