You're going round and round in circles with the one car requirement. Have you seriously looked at the implication of having a second car? It might not be as bad as you imagine and end up making more sense than gambling on a very expensive GT3 that you might regret getting.
The way I look at it having a second car doesnt make much sense given how little I drive (about 2-3 times a week)

and I dont miss manual so much that I would actually buy another car just so I can drive manual once a week

I think a drive of a manual GT3 will help me figure it out but I started this thread because it did occurr to me that its possible that I might get a manual again and then after living with it for a bit, decide that I actually now prefer DCT

that would be a costly mistake and so thought I might see if that has happened to others

so far 1 taker!

I went from 6MT to DCT to ZF8.

I'm one of those auto zealots, now. The DCT was herky jerky, but in a charming way; you kind of buy into the quirky, slam-shifting. It has always been described as "dramatic" and I wholeheartedly agree with that. Loved it in my F80.

Now that I have a G20 with the ZF8 (and spend a lot of time in G80 ZF8s), I really do think paddles in the ZF8 beat my DCT, day to day (noting that I rarely used the gear selector in the DCT, just paddles, so it was a 1:1 swap).

The ZF8 can slam you around when you want it to, but also be the perfect amount of coasting and calm in Comfort and Eco Indiv modes.

I don't regret not looking for a manual. If I suddenly find the urge again, I'll get a NA or ND2 Miata in manual, but like OP, will probably end up missing my ZF8. To me, that's the whole point now: manual in small doses is great, but not when its my only daily option.

Was your DCT not smooth in Comfort mode in the F80? Comfort mode in my 2018 M2 DCT is exceptional. The shifts are smooth and fluid. It does seek the highest gear possible as soon as possible, but it is also pretty responsive to downshift and doesn't lug which is nice. It feels very much like a standard automatic. My favorite driving mode is Traction mode. Lighter and more natural steering, slightly more aggressive shift firmness, more revs before shifting, a little quicker throttle, and a bit of slip/spin allowed before the nannies jump in.

Judging from what you're saying and the cars you've previously owned, you're not going to be happy with just one car or transmission type. No car or transmission is perfect. They both can get annoying over time. IMO, it is very nice to have both options.

Again, the GT3 seems awfully high strung, especially in a metro setting. Why not something more basic in the Porsche 911 line and then make it your own with wheels, wing, bumper swaps, etc.? A friend of mine has a 991 base PDK and that's done up to look like a GT3. He also has a AMG GT, Viper GTS, 600whp SC'd S2000, and a 1100whp C5 Z06. Although the 991 is his slowest sports car by quite a bit, it is by far his favorite car in the stable. It does everything exceptionally well and with little compromise.

It was reasonably smooth in my '17 F80. I now realize that some qualities I chalked up to the DCT were probably the grabby F80 brakes, but my main "jerky" comment was that really odd clunk almost every F8X I've been in has between 1st and 2nd, or from 2nd down to 1st, at every stoplight, or in traffic. I always wrote it off due to 'race car', but my wife wasn't a fan. Other than that, the DCT could be buttery smooth during normal driving.

Yeah, the grabby OEM pads were annoying. I had to switch to ceramics to address some of it.

I occasionally get a faint clunk on the 2-1 shift. I think it's related to the solid rear subframe mounts and stiffer trans and engine mounts. I had a 2016 M235 prior which had much softer engine and trans mounts and rubber filled subframe mounts. The M2 has noticeably more NVH coming through the chassis and at idle. It's not bad, but the stiffer mounting points are clearly the source of most of it and the sounds.
