Cars are only drifting towards being appliances because people keep happily buying appliances and ignoring anything interesting that happens to be brought to market.

Demand.

It's too late for me. I'll happily buy another 20-30 year old car next.

The truth of the matter is that most people don't care about driving dynamics, etc. They care about the car being comfortable and the tech being cool.

I wish it were different, but here we are.

This is unfortunate truth.

Can't wrap my head around it but I'm clearly not the target audience for basically anything being sold. Makes me sad as an enthusiast.

The smartphone and its mobile access to social media, as with most all things in society, have ruined the automobile. ADAS is a direct result of counteraction to distracted driving.

Was thinking about that Prelude… Most of the time the ICE engine isn’t even connected to the wheels, so S+ is just a gasoline noisemaker…lol. Given its price I really have no idea what Honda was trying to accomplish with that car.

I actually saw one in the wild at Cars & Coffee this last weekend. I thought it looked halfway decent in the pictures, but in person I found it to be pretty meh.

I know where a prelude driver works near my office. They pulled out of the driveway behind me one day. Agree with the meh statement.

I did read yesterday that Porsche filed for a patent on what seems to be essentially a slush-box paddle shift mechanism in the form of an h-gate stick shift.

I'm not sure enshittification applies to social media – I'm not sure it was ever good. It's definitely been a huge net-negative for society, IMO.

I guess message boards could be considered social media, but they're not included in what I consider it to be. YMMV.
