New Engine Fitted, No Crank
Hi,
My M5 died a few years ago and I've only just got around to fitting a 2nd hand engine. The engine has only covered 34k and came complete. I've put the engine back in the car and connected everything up but it won't crank. I can hear the low pressure fuel pump priming when I press start but there's not even a click from the starter motor. I've read the codes and it's complaining about a few things but nothing I can imagine would cause no crank. Codes are:
I have cleared all adaptions, updated the injector codes (all to 215 from reading the injectors), replaced the SZL and coded that to the car using Esys, I'm not able to run the steering angle procedure, this fails as the reading is out of range. The 3 ground points (1 by the gearbox, 1 by each DME) are definitely connected. I've purchased a brand new Bosch 105aH battery (coded as well). I've read lots online, some suggested coding the DMEs, which I haven't done as yet. I assume I've got them the right way around but the car died about 3-4 years ago so my memory is a little fuzzy from taking it apart/engine out. Using ISTA, if I go into the DME functions and show the status for "Starter Relay, Status (while engine is not running) it shows "The ignition and fuel injection have not yet been enabled". I've looked into this but not found anything useful. Does anyone have any tips/guidance here please? Thanks |

After lots of trouble shooting I found an issue with KL50, which is the line that goes from the CAS to the starter motor.
The CAS module was sending 12v through KL50 but I was only reading 0.04v in the engine electronics box. When tracing the loom, I found a tracker which I wasn't aware was even fitted. The tracker had been wired up as a "man in the middle" between the CAS and starter motor. There must have been something up with the tracker and that's why 12v wasn't reaching the starter motor. Tracker removed (no subscription known etc), car now starts every time. |
