FX35 vs. RX350
I've got a friend considering buying one of these cars. So far he has test drove the FX35. Any info I can tell him to help him out with his decision? I am also thinking about suggesting the MDX to him also. Any other cars in this class that he should take a look at?
TIA P.S. If he were considering the C63 vs. the M3 I would know a lot more to tell him . |

i own an 05 FX35 and its a pretty fun car to drive. its probably not as luxurious as the lexus, but the performance is way better imo. it has the 350Z motor so its pretty quick for an SUV. if hes leaning towards performance then the FX would be better, if hes looking for more luxury and comfort, then go with the RX.

FX is a nice performance SUV but does NOTHING a SUV suppose to do. Its horrible in rain and snow and doesnt like to stop when its slippery out. Lexus > FX

fx35 for sure. i mean how many of owners really off road their SUV and towing heavy load. I would say 98% of SUV owners just simply drive their to the grocery or do normal thing they would usually do with a car.
better looking, better performer, good tech, very reliable. If you are talking about new fx35, hands down over the lex. I love the aggresive look of the new one. I see ton of fx in winter and rain in canada here and none has any problem or in any accident. So i think the above poster does not make sense. |

The last 4 cars my parents have had have been a Lexus and 3 of them have been the RX. The RX is a great SUV and this years model looks great. Plus, the luxury you get in a lexus is outstanding. Tough choice, both cars are nice, but if their looking for luxury, I say the Lexus; performance, FX35.

I owned an 04 FX35 AWD... one of my favorite vehicles I have ever owned, very comfortable, great performance sport car handling with the 20" sport package. splendid sounding exhaust. down side it did nothing an SUV should do... very cramped in the back, small rear door openings made getting in the back difficult, and forget about when the car was dirty wearing light colored clothes.. and it was horrible in the snow( might be due to mine having 20" sports package)

Doesnt matter if its 20's or 18's. The car is known to SUCK in the snow and rain. Go drive one before you make comments on how a car drives.

if someone had a gun to my head and knife to my gonads and i had to choose between the two, i would go for the RX.
if you're looking for an $40k-$50k SUV, you want all weather capabilities, spacious interior, and reliability, those three disqualify the FX.

What is he looking for in a vehicle, style, ride, comfort? Both of these are cross-over cruisers. The Lexus is very comfortable, but neither of them are going to be a whole lot of excitement to drive. Neither are particularly good in snow unless you outfit them with snow tires.

I've heard good things about the Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60. I'm not sure if your friend is looking beyond Japanese makes, but, if he is, he should check those out. Along with the M-B GLK350 I would think. Between the FX and RX, I think I would choose the FX. But I have driven neither and really have no use for any of the practicality an SUV is supposed to provide.

a. you can't drive in snow properly b. you on summer/all season tires. it is silly to drive this car with all season/summer tires since the rims are wide. the rx rims are narrow so it does better with all season tires. |

My sister was looking at both the 09 fx35 and the 2010 Rx. We test drove both. The Rx is more comfortable and rides more like a car. The fx is more muscular and sounds louder then my 335 lol, also has cameras sides, fron and rear, Rx only has a back up camera. She ended up going with the fx. only thing she doens't like is that the fx has no room in the trunk, you might be able to fit 4 full paper bags from shoprite, that's about as much as it can hold.

Fx. Its a fun car. The Rx is for woman. It is the targeted market. Middle aged woman. The FX is much more fun to drive. But as said earlier, it sucks shit in the snow. It is drivable but the 4x4 button certainly doesn't inspire any super abilities of a truck. My mother had one for a 3yr lease and didn't have one problem. She chose it over the Rx.
