In a world of
"We offer the auto only because it is 0.001 Seconds faster per shift" - news of MT is a welcome surprise. Just when I thought the MT was fading away.. I have to think that internet complaining was not the cause of this change - did BMW notice a drop in sales of the auto-only e60 M5? Or are they concerned with brand image? Because I don't believe there is an AUDI or Mercedes competitor that will offer MT - or maybe thats what they want - to own this market. |

The only thing that "hampers driving experience" is the inability to be involved in it.

This. I know there are many who have stated that they prefer manuals, and that is your perogative. Maybe a poll can be added to this thread. Question: For those actually seriously considering the F10 M5 would you choose MT or DCT? The sales were poor for the E60 and the MT had issues. The handful of "enthusiasts" that asked for this car doesn't necessarily mean it should have happened. If I end up with the M5 it will certainly be a DCT. BTW, to those discussing the 458. I drove it on the track a couple months ago. It is plenty engaging with the paddles. Most driver's wouldn't be capable of handling it with the third peddle involved. |

And turbospec. This quote is fracked! The US market is better placed for the manual gear box? I am no pro but thought the states were crap at stick shitf.

#1) i have a 325i Steptronic and an old 328is manual... #2) If it's being made in Manual and thats what you want... who cares if its made in automatic. The option of it coming in Auto is irrelevant to you since you will opt for the M/T. Be happy. According to you, anyone who likes automatic should go buy a benz. So in order to buy a BMW I have to like Manual transmission... thats stupid. |

And BMW has done its own poll already - the sales of the e60 M5 MT, which if this announcement is any proof (and I believe it is) must have been at least decent. Besides, why are you so concerned with BMW turning the maximum profit? Or are you just afraid your dream M5 will be on the dealer lot offered in a transmission you are not capable of driving?

I enjoyed the 6MT for sure but when it was time to get an M3... it was DCT all the way. The 6MT in the M5 was too clunky...not as smooth as I'd hope. Perhaps they've changed it in the upcoming model. |

Not in order to by a BMW but an //M car, yes. All //M cars should be manual only, they are all top sports versions in there class. If riding out a traffic jam is enough to keep you away from a manual you may be looking into the wrong cars.

If this is true, looks like I will have to add the M5 to my stable of 3 pedal cars
