No comparison. M5 all day. You will fall out of love with the 550i after a couple of years when there is a new one out. You will alway love your M5..

My plan is to buy the 2015 which has already taken a big hit on value (-$37k from MSRP). I was able to negotiate a better price. I've become convinced (thanks in part to contributors to this board) it's better to wait until a new model is out for a bit before I jump into it. I will probably sell the F10 in a few years and get the new one once it's been out for a while. (Mind you I bought my 03 E39 M5 and had it for nearly 14 years! ). I've never done a swapalease so I'm a bit worried about it. And seems like my cost of ownership should be less buying a heavily depreciated, very lo miles M5 vs lease. In any case I should be closing in about 10 days. Can't wait!

A lot of people are driving around in a second hand M5, so I'm not so sure I would feel inferior if I were to drive a 2018 550i since that's the best new 5 series on the market.
When the new M5 comes out then it's another story. That's why I don't think it's a bad idea to lease a 550i and then switch over to a new LCI M5 sometime in 2020. However, with that said I would still probably pick the F10 M5 over the 2018 550i if I were to shop for one today. |

To MissMY E39,
Please remember, when the new M5 does come out your F10 that you purchase is going to take a hit in price. That's why you could assume a F10 lease now for about $1000 per month, then get the second year model of the new M5. |

I've used it -- works great. Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to lease a new M550xi once the lease rates are good. I'd put $4-5k down on it and do ED. Then once the M5 was out I'd throw it up on swapalease. As long as your payment is low ( don't option the car heavily ) you'll be able to dump it fast. Ownership cost on a monthly basis will still be high but you'll come out ahead over buying and taking that first year depreciation hit.

On a side note, it's too bad the residuals on the 2016 M5 are so low right now. Residuals were up around 65% a few months ago. I believe they're at 55% right now with a .00134 MF. |

If you do though, I disagree, and here's why: 1) The new person leasing the vehicle must qualify -- it is easier to qualify when the payment with BMWFS is lower. 2) A small chunk of money down can make a sizable difference in the monthly payment -- enough to make your lease deal more competitive. It's still a risk if you total the car, but that's one I'm (and most) are willing to take. 3) MSD's make the lease nearly impossible to exit. Been there done that, never again. That's a great way to guarantee you're permanently stuck until the lease is over.

Definitely go for the G30, straight line speed can be solved with tunes, but tractions issues can't be completely solved, 8/10 times you will take the F10 M5 due to xdrive and the insane launch on the G30 m550. I've hit 3.2 0-60 with just JB4 and have yet to lose to any F10/F13M in 1/4. Suspension is softer though for sure, and I honestly have never wished to own the F10 M5 after owning this, F90 sure, but never the F10 M5.
