2015 F10 M5 v 2018 M550i-- thoughts?
Hi all, I just joined this thread but have learned lots just reading posts. This site is terrific!! I sadly just sold my 2003 M5 which I owned since new... Ran it into the ground and alas was not able to pass a smog test in California. Ugh! Wasn't worth the money to fix. In any case I'm now debating whether to buy super lo mileage 2015 M5-- 5k miles, dealer driven with nearly all bells and whistle: comp package, exec package, driver assist, bang&olufson, night vision, ceramic brakes. MSRP of $127k going for $87k, maybe can buy for a bit less. Or my dealer said I could custom order the first 2018 m550i that rolls into his shop. With the extras, it should price out around the F10. I've been pulling my hair out trying to make a decision, so if anyone has thoughts/opinions would love to hear. I should add that I will be driving a lot of city miles in SF in the car, but also will get out on the open road...of course! Thanks!

I'm biased but I say go for the '15 M5. The m550i should be a nice car but not only is it a first year car (w/ potential first year issues) it's also not a true ///M.
Also, if you decide on the F10 M5 continue to shop around (nationwide if you can). You'll be surprised at the resale markets on that car.

Not to sound like a douche, but just get the M and be done with it. Everytime an m5 pulls up next to you.. you'd wish u went M

Get the M5! the 550 will be cool until they are all over the place and you'll look back and be like damn why didn't i get the m5, I'm driving a 550. No comparison in my book. A true M is what people care about! Not to mention if a f10 pulls up next to you, stock or not after 30-40 mph you'll be left in the dust. If your buying this is a no brainer. That 550 will tank! The m5 already took on some depreciation and it's an M so it will hold up better. A $85,0000 550 will be worth 45k in two years. |

MMEM5,
Set the money issue aside and ask if your heart will be happier with newer tech, at the expense of a car that will never handle like an M, or will your heart only be happy with a worthy replacement for the car you just lost. Based on your post, it sounds like you will be most content with the M5. The tech gains and new-model-car gee whiz will only last a little while with the 550, whereas the visceral enjoyment of your M5 will be there every time you start the car. Plus, it is an M; no 5 series will ever be a true M. Good luck, and when you get your car tomorrow, be sure to post pics ![]() Regards, Danny |

![]() M is better but 2018 550i isn't that much slower (and is quicker from stoplight to stoplight like my joke above). I don't know how you plan to purchase it but if it's lease, I would just get the 2018 550i first and then the new M5 LCI when the lease is over. |
