Hi Guys (& Girls?),
Trying to decide which car to buy this month - M5; Merc E63 AMG or Jag XFR. I know you may be bias on this forum, but views based on recent test drives would be appreciated. Love my 3.0d M-Sport Touring, but not sure if M5 enough of a change visually. Anyway may be joining the club of M5 owners in the new year and thought I'd post my name to boost numbers. |

in the order i put them u will like xfr-s, very fun to drive then u go to m5: most comfortable seats ever made, amazing interior, BEST gearbox and nothing beats the iDrive, MDM then u go for e63: very beautiful from the front, shit gearbox, shit traction control, u cannot control gears, as sooner or later it switches them itself anyway. computer with navigation is back from 1990s, 5 colours: white, black, yellow, blue, orange. the only WOW (if we can call it so) parts about e63 are: u can change interior trim light (blue, orange, white) and very comfy steering wheel interior doesnt bring same luxurious as m5 and i honestly i am just an AMG hater, the only car from them i would buy is G55/63 ps: i know u said XFR, but XFR-S is closer in price range and power of m5 and e63 |

Thanks for views.
Jaguar dealer has just moved my test drive date for the third time as 'Jaguar' have decided once again that the dealer can wait until November! What happened to customer service? Not happy nor the best way to sell me a £80k car One down two to go... I have heard similar reports on the E63 and that it's not a 'day-to-day' driving car. Yes, I will be trying it to form an opinion as well - we all look for different things... Nice to have real opinions rather than so called 'professional' reviewers opinions in glossy articles. Cheers Guys |

depends what you want if you want to have fun on the car and you like driving then why anyone would pick the Jag or the Merc is beyond me when the m5 is easily the best drivers car. evo's review last year of those cars plus the panemera is still valid, the new e63 is a bit quicker but it's a merc driving experience.
you see the m5 and GTR compared a lot, never with the jag or the e63, or the p-car for that matter.

I test drove the e63 and previously had a c63 - M5 feels like two cars in one - a GT cruiser with 5 seats and an insane very big race car. e63 was no comparison in hindsight - the tech in particular was v poor (tiny screen, no HUD etc) never mind the poor traction control the c63 also suffered from ie OFF or ON and no inbetween - I love how the M5 you hardly notice traction kicking in only the flashing of the lights in the dash let you know.
A lot of people comment on the fact the M5 is perhaps too subtle but the stance/look/width and depending on the colour makes this car stand out from the crowd and certainly that has its benefits too though it certainly doesn't look like a standard 5 series and I owned a 520d MSport with 19's before the M5. The review that helped me was Chris Harris - Love his no nonsense style and asks the questions i want answered!

Hi
Did the back to back test this week. Very disappointed with the E63 AMG, needed hard pushing to get it going and felt the car was driving rather than me - to safe and controlling! However the M5 was a dream, and couldn't stop grinning all day long - I was apparantely a special customer as they allowed me to have a new car for 24 hours, which they rarely do. Popped the turbo boost a couple of times, did 130 in 3rd and hit the limit of 155 once. I felt the car always had more if I wanted it and I was in charge. Absolutely brilliant and just placed the order on Friday. Hard negotiation saw £10k discount and good px value on current car. They even agreed to fit the supplied Akrapovic exhaust for £120 all in! Due 2nd week of Jan 14, so late Christmas prezzie yo myself. Thanks for all comments and maybe see people at a UK gathering sometime. |
