BMW is testing out new Camoflage schemes
At first sight this looks like a cleverly disguised BMW prototype. In actuality it is BMW's current generation E65 7-series wrapped in some interesting body tape. BMW is infact testing out new camoflage schemes and this is one of them.
BMW has recently moved from tape covering of their cars to full body cladding as Benz has been doing for some years. It now seems BMW wants to move beyond the body-cladding strategy into a tape with patterns strategy as GM is known for with its zebra patterened camoflage. The exact reasoning for this change isn't known, but i'd venture a guess that the body cladding might affect aerodynamics of the car in real world testing |

Interesting idea.
It doesn't actually hide the lines of the car and all aerodynamics and cooling features can be tested properly. But it doesn't half mess up a photo.

i think they do it because its hard for the human eye to depict the small details and curves the car will hold so i guess it would make it more of a Suprise when they actually show the car????

Sure it is not just one of those "Artsy" BMWs? I know they had artist paint a bunch of BMW cars a while back. The only reason I might question that is because of the white mixed with the yellow in no distinct pattern.
That and the OP said it was the current 7 series in his post

It is supposed to not have a "pattern" as it would be easier for the eye to determine the shape if it did. They probably will use this for in between testing where most of the body work is complete and they are fine tuning things. Still have the cladding for early prototypes, then rather than begin to reveal things to us, apply the vinyl decal. (which is also easily removable) This also makes it MUCH harder for magazines and sites to "complete" a test mule car in photoshop (where details of the lights and such used to be covered in black tape) |

This is actually an ingenious and very effective camo setup. Take a look at the rear 3/4 shot with the trunk. You can't decipher anything. Pretty effective if you ask me.
