BMW Individual: Leather Dashboard vs. Full Leather

Hi guys,

Have put in an order for my M4 Cvt and wanted Full Individual (Color) Leather. Dealer was apparently told by BMWNA that all they needed to do was put in the order for the Extended Individual Leather and add on the Leather Dashboard option. I've pushed back on this, but have been told that BMWNA was insistent. I'm still not sold.

Any thoughts or experience?

I have extended leather (no dashboard) and after seeing my friends Full Leather option, I was bummed out man. It looks nice & you also get the doors in full leather as well. If it's a matter of option and not money definitely full leather.

Thanks. To be clear, I absolutely want (and will not take delivery of the car without) full leather. BMWNA seems to think that adding the "Leather Dashboard" option on top of Extended Individual will get it to the "Full" configuration. I don't really believe that and wanted a second opinion from the forum.

Do some fast math - how much is the "leather dash" option? The difference between extended ($950) and full ($3,500) is $2,550. If the option is less, then you're probably not getting the full treatment; if it's equal to or more, then you're getting it.

The leather dash is a seperate option in Belgium that I did not take with the full leather.

According to the order guide, there are three leather options:

LK Extended Merino Leather
X3 Full Merino Leather
ZA (Ind) Extended Merino Leather

If I understand you correctly, your order is for ZA, correct? I'm not sure why this is named "Extended" rather than "Full", but I don't recall seeing a car with ZA interior that does not have the leather dash. Now, I could be wrong about that. But if I am, it would strike me as very odd that there is no standard option code for Individual colored leather that will get you the same surfaces covered in leather that you would with the non-Individual colored Full Leather option, X3.

Same. It's the one thing I absolutely regret. I'd also opt for the individual contrast stitching too.

Spend the money... get the full

We are probably getting confused in semantics here:

CLOTH/LEATHER, leather seat bolster with carbon structure cloth in the middle of the seats and door inserts
EXTENDED LEATHER, means "full" leather seats and leather on the door inserts
FULL LEATHER adds leather on the upper and lower dash and upper door sills.

In Belgium there are 3 options:

Leather Merino (0 euro)

Full leather Merino seats (1580 euro)

Dashboard leather (1275 euro)

Where's Technic? He usually has good info when it comes to Individual ordering details.

Are you sure Full leather and Leather Dash or not mutually exclusive options?

Looking at the Belgian configurator, Full leather seem to include the leather on the upper and lower dash and upper door sills, same as in the US.

I can only guess that the "leather dash" option is to convert Individual leather option into "full leather".

Carbon structure does not even seem to be an option in Belgium.

I'm here... just amused in this thread as this has been discussed ad nauseum before: for MY2016, XT1 is the add-on code for Individual Full Leather on top of the Individual Extended Leather.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&highlight=xt1

Apparently, BMWNA is just adding $950 to the Individual Extended Leather to make it Full Leather. Savings of about $350 over ordering any of the "normal" leather colors in Full Leather. Don't ask why is this, just pay quick before they fix it.

Wow, yeah, I certainly wasn't aware of all of this. I haven't paid much attention to ordering for MY2016 since I have my car and am not currently in the market for another.

So with Full Leather, you get the "special" colors for $350 cheaper than the "standard" ones, whereas for Extended Leather, the "special" colors cost $1350 more than the standard ones. That's nuts! Makes the decision almost a no brainer - for a Full Leather order, I would certainly pick Opal instead of Silverstone and perhaps even Cohiba instead of Black, for example. And certainly anyone attempting to put through an order for Full Sonoma instead of one of the other brown-ish Individual colors should be tackled, slapped, and forced to change their order.

Need to check the option code, but the $950 sounds right - and that math was what was throwing me off. Phew, thanks, feeling much better.

From what know you have:

1. Leather Merino
2. Full leather Merino
3. Individual leather Merino

The option to have the dashboard also wrapped in leather is only available in combination with 3. Individual leather Merino.

Maybe there is a language barrier here but in my situation I ordered my F82 with Sakhir Orange Full leather Merino, the bottom part of the dashboard will be wrapped in the same Sakhir Orange leather as the seats. But I did not take the option to have the dashboard in leather which is by the way not available in combi with the Sakhir Orange interior.

The carbon on the inside is indeed not mentioned in the configurator but they can be ordered at the dealer and so I did.

In the BMW.BE configurator, when you select "Full Merino Leather", it clearly shows black leather on the upper dash and top door sills with contrasting stitching around the instrument cluster (see picture below). Same as in the US and Canada.

IMO, it would be a total rip off to charge 1580.00Eur for the lower dash only. It does not make sense.

EDIT: At work I could not see the pictures you posted. Look closely at the second picture "full leather", you can see the upper dash and top door sills in leather.

I interpret that you don't have your car yet. I think you will have a nice surprise .

The "Carbon Structure" I mention are cloth seats with leather bolsters. You cannot have this and leather seats at the same time. That is the base interior configuration in Canada and the US. Extended leather is the next step up and Full leather is the step above that. You seem to be getting Extended Leather standard (base configuration) in Belgium.

You probably mean the Carbon Fibre trim, which interestingly, as you say, does not show on the Belgian configurator (it was offered last year though , I know, I checked).

OP's dealer is correct. All I did was choose extended leather (opal white) and added leather dashboard option. Also, individual leather w/ leather dashboard is cheaper than going full leather (i.e., instead of checking extended + dashboard) in normal colors.

Here is how my car turned out -- hope you enjoy yours! Absolutely loving mine.

This was also the case for MY2015 (that's what I have). I don't think they plan on fixing it.
