Aventador on Fire!
Didn't see this posted here before. To see the good part, skip right to around 1:30. The guy is completely oblivious to it initially. I wonder if it's something he did or it was a faulty car.

Longest red light in human history? Seriously though, it's hot as fuck in Dubai and these guys are just revving their high strung engines at an incredibly long red light. I just think of F1 when they have a slight delay at the start and the cars start smoking because they rely on moving air to cool the engines. I think that's exactly what happened here.

Beyond being aware of air flow over the engine and the issue of urban traffic, should you turn off the engine at long lights? or does heat soak fry components?

Nothing like letting the 'puter slide a little raw gas into the exhaust when the throttle is lifted. It's a supercar after all, it has to crackle, pop, and spit flames out the exhaust or else nobody will be impressed.

Do what, Lamborghini did nothing. Idiots revving a high performance engine at a light after they've been already driving around without the engine getting enough air causes the engine to overheat to catastrophic levels.
Just like the other idiot in Beverly Hills who drove in with his LaFerrari smoking after driving around a neighbourhood at high rpms without the engine breathing appropriately. Retarded behaviour = retarded results. |

Hmm. I let the video finish in this window and up popped a handful of suggested videos. 4 of them were Aventadors catching fire, all of them appeared to be the rear end lighting up. Methinks this is not a onetime event.

Seems that kicked in right when the flames appeared.

Cause was "NOT" overheating !
Stop the video at exactly "1:42" runtime .. As you can see such cars are shooting flames...the more it happens the richer the fuel quantity ! So the flame with a remainder of fuel ended up on the back end of the car , car drove off and the wind was ideal to set the whole car in fire ! Cause "IS" revving the engine stationary in hot climate, shooting flames and unburned fuel with fire ended up on the car . The result we saw..

I agree looks like it’s down to shooting flame, maybe Lombo should add to the user manual do not rev the car while at stand still you need to be moving forward so flames get to the one behind you and not burn you down. I believe some of the super cars have some serious screw ups designs like the Porsche 918 catching fire while feeling up, you look at the position of the massive exhaust so near the fuel cap, add the angle both are at, to feel your car you moving the host upward, I can see easily the scenario of couple of fuel drops landing on the hot like hell exhaust!
Apparently this one not the only one going up on smoke |

Couldn't the guy filming it have let the driver know? IMO that makes him almost as much a prat as the driver.
Even if you think the guy is an idiot, this is a hazard to other motorists. |

You mean the guy screaming "FIRE!!" out of his window? It's clear on the video that he and other drivers around him are yelling to warn him.

Cars were stationary for a while, wouldn't have taken much to get out and tell him "by yelling fire we mean your car is burning, we don't just mean the flames from your exhaust". Or words to that effect Sorry, but see too many vids online these days where people could actually have helped rather than concentrate on recording. But maybe that's just me |

That was my first though too. When the guy was at the back yelling and honking, it would have been just easier to quickly run up to the guy and tell him that his freaking car is on fire. Had he done that, it probably could have been saved after putting the fire out.
