Langenburg, Germany... Way back in the day I use to subscribe to AutoWeek magazine. Back then it was more of a semi color, newspaper than a magazine. The magazine was giant size, like the size of the NY Times paper, but bound(magazine style) and say only fifty or so pages. And most of that was B&W used car ads in the back of each issue! But... what got me thinking was AW(AutoWeek) ran a series of "Auto Museum" stories every few weeks, back then. I always clipped those articles and saved them in a "special" wishes scrap book of mine. I knew some day I would go visit Germany and use these articles as my guide to Auto Museums in Germany. That is just what I did. Fast forward to 1997, when I first traveled to Germany on an "extended" vacation for a few weeks stay. One of the places I wanted to go visit was Schloss Langenburg. on my automotive bucket list. Since then I have been back a few times and I always enjoy this small but quiant museum. The museum has some kind of connection to the Porsche Museum and Sinsheim - bc I have noticed cars from those museums on display here. They also have had some very special Porsche's on display here from time to time. Like the first time I was here they had Ferry Porsche's birthday special works car... a FOUR door 928 S4 - what a cool car! Piech liked the car so much he had the boys in Zuffenhausen build him one too! lol The museum isn't very large nor modern. But it is nice. Schloss Langenburg is located in a very picturesque part of Germany in Baden Württemberg. It would make for a great side trip to kill half a day while on ED. Langenburg is located just off the A6 Autobahn, between the A81 and A7 Autobahn crossings. It's about an hour(or so) away from Stuttgart or Nurnberg or Würzburg. What I would recommend is to come here for a few hours: Enjoy the small automuseum, take a tour of the old castle next door(that takes about two hours - IF your interested in that sort of thing) and/or have a walk in the rose garden and enjoy the view over some nice Coffee and Cake. This little town is quite romantic and its also close to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Schwäbisch Hall. Schloss Langenburg is one of those fairly take castles that people often get married in/at. Often they hold catered events here. The auto museum also puts on several classic car shows and rallies thru out the year. It's quite a beautiful place to visit. AND its off most people's radar which is why I love it. I like those secret sort of places off the beaten path. Ok, now onto my photos. Enjoy gang! Dackel Automuseum Schloss Langenburg... A6 autobahn bridge not too far from Langenburg...

Thanks so much for these museum tours. Love the castles and more than anything love the old, classic cars. SO much character and personality and beauty in their complex simplicity.
The castle reminds me of the Schloss Adler in Austria from the 1969 motion picture called Where Eagles Dare. |
