2015 X5M Winter tires options
Hi I just wanted to start a new thread for others to post what they went for in winter rim and tire choices other than the BMW 20" option.
Thanks |

I just had BMW's COLD WEATHER 449 WHEEL AND TIRE installed on my 2015 X5M. They are 19" 255 tires, so they don't look as nice my 20" 275 & 315. However, these Pirelli's give a much nicer ride than my stock Dunlops.
I would like to hear which tires others are buying to replace their stock 20" 275 & 315 stock run flat tires? |

I'm in the process of building my own winter setup consisting of: 20 inch rep BMW wheels (20x9.5 and 20x10.5), 285-40-20 Pirelli rubber, and TPMS sensors. Once everything arrives and I test fit I'll report my findings.

Totally not your fault. It firmly lies at BMW's feet for diluting the "M" Brand with all these stupid quasi M cars. M sport this, half-M that, I mean come on, they even have an X4 M40i, what the heck is that thing supposed to be?! Just make an X4 M already if you're going to do it.

The S4 name plate has value and cache in a way that a 340i xDrive with M-Performance Power Kit and Accessories ::takes a breath:: never will; despite a similar price point and performance. Better still, an RS4 is clearly differentiated and the buyer of the later doesn't feel as though the RS brand is diluted for the presence of the former. IMHO, BMW needs completely overhaul its marketing. Ideally, they'd stop thinking parochially about the aftermarket/after-sales of performance parts/accessories and more about a resurrecting a real sub-brand/line (maybe call it "ZHP": I know it's an option code, but it's in the enthusiast lexicon as a reference to hi-po series cars). Drop the M decals and let the sub-brand (and after sales) flourish for what it is, not what it's in the shadow of. I think a lot of performance-optioned series cars deserve distinction over their fleet-lease brethren and there's an obvious desire from their buyers for that (see the thousands of "should I ///M badge?" threads). IMHO, offering that distinction in a way that doesn't make them "entry level" or "baby" or "almost-a" would make everyone happier. This kind of works... M3 and 3-ZHP X5M and X5-ZHP |

It's not a question of S vs RS. They are distinct lines.
What you run into with Audi is very much like BMW M vs M-sport. Audi has the S-line, which are just certain options that culminate with an S badge on your car...but it's not an S car. You can buy the SQ5, or you can buy a Q5 TDI S-line. Same thing for BMW. I think you are right about the "almost-a" situation. It lowers the perceived value for the buyers of true M vehicles when there are people driving around in "poser" cars. Not that I have anything against drivers of such vehicles (our Q5 had S-line options), but I think it's silly to badge it as something it is not.

Replacing stock run flat tires
I ordered my winter tire/rims through BMW. I put in my car info and they gave me three different wheel and rim options, an 18", 19", and 20" option. I considered aftermarket rims, but decided to stick with BMW products.
I would like to hear what types of tires others are replacing their 275/40-20 & 315/35-20 stock run flats with? Anyone opted not to stick with run flat tires? |

The F85 X5M also comes standard with non-run flat tires (Pirelli P-Zeros in 285/40R20 and 325/30R20 or Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 285/35R21 and 325/30R21). Some choose to run 275/40R20 and 315/30R21 Continental Extreme Contact DWS or DWS06 as an 'all-season' option. Last edited by Roundown; 01-03-2016 at 02:30 PM.. |

Run flats or non run flats on F85?
This is driving me nuts.
The 285/40R20 no longer available(sold out everywhere) and I'm looking for a nice set of winter rubber. There is a Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow RUN-FLAT 275/40R20 front and 315/35R20 rear staggered set available. I've never run run-flats... Please anyone and everyone comment on how the Pirelli run flats will do and any other options that anyone can think of. Thank you and any feedback would be great! |
