Noise from rear over bumps... Hatch again?

Loving my X5M, but have one little annoyance I would like to solve...

I seem to get a metal-on-metal tick/click noise over bumps, but not all bumps and not all the time. I have tried adjusting the rear hatch, but the results are inconclusive.

Anyone else have this issue? Any resolutions?

Did either of you check to make sure the spare tire, and it's accessories are properly secured? On the E70 X5, that was a continual place of clicks and rattles that people thought of last.

I removed my spare to test that exact theory. The noise was still there.

I feel like the adjustments I have made to the hatch stops has helped it some, but I am not sure if that is reality or wishful thinking. In either case, it hasn't eliminated the problem.

So I spent some time today researching the noise. I discovered it seems to be coming from the driver's side rear shock - either the shock itself or the mount. I'm not sure which. It is definitely from that, however

It is going into the shop to get checked on. Waiting for service to confirm. I will post back if that's it.

Was kinda fun riding around in the spare tire area while my 17yr old son was driving...

Yup. It was the easiest way to diagnose it. Worked well. At the service center now, was able to reproduce it with them listening. Should have a better diagnosis shortly.

Parts on order - Guide support and the sealing gasket. They should arrive next week and I'll get it replaced. Should be quiet as a tomb after that - assuming those are the only parts needed.

Will post back after the repairs are complete.

Any news ?
I just bought an X5m F85 with and drove approx. 300 miles and the noise is still there. the car is brand new.. and the noise is killing me. So many people have recommended tape. I will sure give it a try, and when I do I will be positing my results.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the car serviced yet. I definitely think that's it, however, as the recent plunge in temps (and corresponding hardening of the bushings) caused the noise to go away.

I'll confirm back once the service work is completed.

Finally got the part replaced after some scheduling issues. The noise is now gone, as far as I can tell.

Interestingly, when it's cold out (and the rubber gets stiffer) it wouldn't make the noise. Over the last few days we've had temps in the mid-50s and it returned. Luckily when I picked the truck up it was about 55 degrees outside and it was silent.

Ahh... The sound of silence.
