I wonder if this kind of technology will be used in other applications going forward. It's a great idea.

I think Audi is on the right track here, this seems like more things to go wrong, piping, tubing, tank, compressor, etc.

Looks like extra weight to me. The compressed air tank is not going to be light.

They had a plan for rolling electric turbos at some point, what happened to that? Sounded like a lot less junk to carry around.

Instead of using the compressed air to spool up the turbo why not just pipe that extra air into the throttle body that would also eventually make the turbo catch up.

I wonder how this compressed air won't freeze in -20C and colder weather.

Because this is about throttle response.

Maybe because the compressor would always have to be at the same pressure as the turbo and this would be tricky to engineer since the turbo is never at a fixed PSI

Variable area turbine nozzle turbos and optional electric assist are way better than this.

More things to go wrong. They must use software to correct the O2 sensor reading since adding air to the exhaust would probably read as a lean condition.

Now that the Chinese own Volvo, (purchased fro Ford in 2010) I'm sure they will come up with a fool proof setup even if they have to copy it from somebody else. LOL

That's a pretty neat solution to the lag problem, I question its efficiency in terms of duration. I would make more sense (to me) to inject the pressurized air directly into the intake and add gas to compensate for the lack of pressure. This in affect is just allowing it to spool up faster.

I dont think it will perform better than having twin turbos

you are still generating boost by spooling the turbo by speeding up the exhaust wheel

I think you answered your own question.
