It was too fast and catching up with the 911. They had to detune it lol.

It will be faster and more tuneable than the old six and still handle better than the 911. I see no problem.

More breaking news. The Panamera has been renamed the 212, the Cayenne is now the 347, and the Macan is changed to the 917.

That way their entire product line can be the New York City area codes.

I cancelled my order as soon as the sales guy said six cylinder no longer available. Good luck to Porsche and their four bangers...

Wait those turbo 4s, are they regular flat 4s or boxers? Because i find the thought of a porsche sounding like a wrx hilarious.

Flat 4s or boxers or HO cylinders are all description of the same engine design whether be it in a suby, Porsche or old school vw bug

Ugh, 4-cyl turbo. Also 50 odd lbs heavier than before thanks to additional kit for turbo. I guess going turbo is how you stay in the game, but not sure why they had to remove cylinders. Porsche claim that it's due to lack of space with all the turbo kit, but I doubt that's really the case.

I'm sure journos will be writing non-stop about how Porsche made it better by making it heavier, downsizing the engine and more importantly changing the name. Somehow '718' makes it sound more serious.

Tuners will be happy, for sure. Only time will tell.

Sound; throttle response; high rev limit; linear, rather than flat torque curve; less weight; fun to drive. I have yet to drive a turbo charged car that's more fun than a naturally aspirated car. Faster, easier to loaf around, sure, but not more fun.

If they make the car slightly smaller and lighter and only add back some of the weight with the turbos and presumably iron engine bits, then it's a win. But if weight creeps closer to 3k pounds and this is just a speed grab, than boo.

The base models will make less power but have more torque than the flat six it's replacing, 240hp out of a 2.5 turbo flat 4 in a heavier car in 2017 is underwhelming at best.

I'd rather just get a older cayman/boxster and have the manic flat six

Pretty sure the new Porsche is a BOXER like the Subi, gives better balance from what I read in Wikipedia.
I think Mercedes was using a flat '180 degree' flat V-8 in some prototype class racers that made it into limited production road going versions.
