Looking for advise. My car arrived at port here in Australia 3 weeks ago and after demanding answers as to why my car is delayed. I got them
Been waiting 4 months for this not to mention the 6months before while following the M2. Some goose at the VPC left the bonnets (hoods) open on a bunch of cars and the big winds we had here blew them back. Apparently no contact was made with other panels. My options 1. Order a new car wait another 4 months 2. There is another YMB at the VPC. They can swap the bonnet and struts. I seriously don't know what to do. Have concerns of everything from mechanic leaning on guards banging a spanner around, Factory paint striping or touch ups on bolts. Though looks like to remove the support bracket the bonnet attaches to, you have to remove just 4 bolts at the bottom. I've included pics of a white M4 to show the support that holds the bonnet. Bare in mind I'm the kind of guy who demanded they don't wash my car I'm that fastidious. Thoughts? |

I think it would take a little bit to stop thinking of the damage every time I sat on the car. But after a few months it will be like it never happened. On the other hand waiting another 4 months would be hard but then you will have a perfect car. I would try to ask for a loaner while you wait 4 months. Especially if this is your first M then wouldn't you want it to be flawless?

This doesn't look like major damage. They should be able to fix it and you won't know the difference. As far as the 'perfect car' goes. I would say forget about that. Even if you get another one there is a decent chance a wheel or bumper or fender might get scratched with daily driving. Perfect car = keep in garage, but even then your bike could fall over and scratch it. If things and people remained perfect we wouldn't need insurance.

You'll get a stone chip within your first few drives, don't sweat the little things.
If anyone is going to fix your car, you want it to be VPC from what I've heard.

If no other panels were truly touched and they have the parts there to replace it, then I would go that route.
But IMO if you decided to reorder they should put you to the "front of the line" I wouldn't wait another 4 months.

As for VPC standards I hope that applies to here in Australia. I'm going to call BMW AU directly and find the exact process. And yes this is my first brand new M so want it to be special. Worst case if I'm not happy and decide to reorder would asking for individual paint or comp package be pushing things lol. |

That's the thing I'm curious about. How in the world did you get pics? Here in the US they need to disclose damage beyond a certain value. Perhaps it's the same for you guys as well.

This is a classic example of when having more information is harmful. There are so many threads on this forum with people thinking minor damage like this is unacceptable and makes their car tainted. In reality, it happens all the time! This the reason why VPCs exist in the first place! In the past, you just wouldn't have known, and life would go on happily. Frankly, I have no idea why BMW even makes this information available to customers. It only causes problems.
To the OP, my advice is relax, let them replace the hood. I have no idea why you think this type of cosmetic damage would impact the car in any way. |

Since this is a lease, I would let them fix it (the damage doesn't look too bad) + compensate you somehow for this. Maybe they can install the M Perf exhaust for you for free?

better yet, the only way to be properly compensated is for the OP to receive a M4 GTS

Food for thought:
This slightly damaged car will be expertly made whole again by the VPC (better than ANY shop), as the VPC is basically an extension of the factory. It could also be a winner in every other way....strong engine and may run like a champ your entire ownership. You could wait and get a new "perfect" car and may have hidden issues. You'd REALLY be kicking yourself then. My point, you never know..... However one thing you will know is that the VPC will repair it as if it came from the factory itself.

I'm wondering this as well...in the US what happens at the VPC is a closely guarded secret that takes a lot of digging just to find out what is being fixed, much less get pictures of the damage.

You should be glad it's just a hood swap. If the other panels where damaged then a would be worried a little but still vpc will make it perfect regardless.
VPC will replace the hood not repair it.
