Driver side mirror Camera Error!!
So my F85 barley hit the 1200 mile mark and this happened to me at least 6-8 times and it gets annoying especially when you are trying to park.
Have anyone experienced this error before? The 360 camera goes blank (Blue screen) the left mirror only. If you are wondering if the driver door is open, it is not. If it was you will get a black and grey striped left side screen instead of the blank blue. I have tried restarting the car but... sometimes it fixes the problem and sometimes it doesn't. Software issue? Connection issue? or a defected camera all together? I apologise for the way the photo is oriented. I made sure that it was oriented properly but for some odd reason it is uploaded this way... no clue why |

We had something similar happen in one of our other BMWs. It was the rear facing camera that went out, though. It would work sometimes, and then other times it would show an error and the screen would be blank, like yours. It turned out to be the camera and cable needed replacing. It was a few weeks wait, as there was a backorder on BMW's cameras at that time. We brought it in, and were told the tech couldn't recreate the issue, but fortunately we had a video of it happening, that we turned over to the the tech, which he used to diagnose the problem. Once he took the camera out, he could see it was faulty. Sometimes, I think car companies rely too heavily on computers to diagnose their issues these days. Sometimes, simply looking at the item in question would be a faster method of diagnosing the problem at hand.

Update, I just came back from the Dealer and they said they will have to replace the Camera (including the camera connecting cables) and it will take once week to arrive. So I took my car home and I will wait for their call.
Apparently it is a defective camera. This sucks! knowing that their service center is in an industrial location and i have to load my car on a flatbed every time it goes for maintenance. The good part is the the Flatbed charges only 40 USD since my house is not too far away from the service center. |

Environmental issues perhaps? Too hot in SA? Probably not...

If you think about it, Its almost as hot as it gets in Texas... That shouldn't be the issue... I believe it could be a connection issue in the cables connecting the camera... sometimes when I open and close the door and/or fold in/out the mirrors the camera starts working again.. but it turns off later on with out any reason... in addition, this time (I guess the system is sick of the camera) so it decided to give me this weird looking Fault.

UPDATE
Update about my Driver side mirror camera issue:
After another MONTH of waiting, I went to BMW Service and i was Angry with them and had a legal complaint letter to be submitted to their upper management... apparently the tech who is suppose to work on the car checked out the part and put it in his box and locked his box and took a leave and..... etc......long story short... I was informed that : in case of a camera failure and the problem was noted in the car ECU first step is changing the camera. If the problem still exists, they change this cable (i am attaching a photo of it) AND NOW AFTER THE CABLE IS CHANGED.....THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE!!!! They will be sending Germany an Email with the whats going on and wait for technicians from Germany to respond hoping that they will have an answer for me by Saturday. |

update on Driver side mirror error
Please be advise that i am not a technician what so ever so i will try to convey what the technician working on my F85 said:
1)When they first read the error, it was clear that there was a defect ion the left side mirror camera and therefore, they had to replace it. 2)1/2 after receiving the car and driving it, the error came up again. This time it indicated that there is a connection error. The technician said that the camera is connected to the cable I attached a photo of earlier, that cable is connected to a loom of cables the loom is connected to an ECU unit responsible for driver side mirrors (as I understood) which is different than the ECU used for tuning purposes. They said they will test the connection of the loom to the ECU then test the ECU to rule both of them out. After a long day of testing, BMW said that the cable that came from BMW Germany is defected and they will have to order another cable!! (I included the picture of the defected cable again) Good thing the loom and the ECU are OK... so again I will have to wait for 10 working days until they receive a cable from Germany and then another day at the shop.... |

So finally the issue was resolved!! It was the cable i listed last! I had bad luck getting a defected cable from Germany. They replaced the cable with a new one and everything went back to normal. Thank you all! CASE CLOSED.
