Seeing the X5M in my wife's future, had some questions
Long time BMW owner here, have had an e46 330, e46 M3 and then an F10 M5. Took a sabbatical during the Bangle years and came back, and now that I no longer have a bimmer in my stable, I'd like to get back in.
My wife currently drives a Willys Wrangler Unlimited, and I just traded in the M5 for a 911 GTS. Driving around in the Willys the other night when it was 2 degrees out I came to the realization that we have two really impractical cars. As fun as each car is, they both suck when its really cold out. I found myself missing the heated steering wheel and seats. It took me maybe 1 minute to think about how the X5M would be perfect, and after spending two hours watching Youtube vids on the X5M last night its decided, so a couple questions for those of you that have one. This one will be a lease, as I dont think I would keep it past 3 years once the GX5 is out. 1.) If I trade in a car I own into a lease, do I still get the tax benefit on trade in? Or do you need to go from a purchase to a purchase to receive that benefit? 2.) I saw all the current lease rates for the X5s with the exception of the M version - does someone have those? Is it also .00132 MF with 58% residual on a 10k allowance? 3.) I plan to do MSDs, am I correct in each MSD amount being the equivalent of one month's payment? Are MSDs allowed in NJ? 4.) I am aiming for ~8% off MSRP, do people agree with that currently? 5.) On a lease, if you do clear bra, do they expect it removed? I would guess no, but I normally purchase. Thanks in advance guys - Patrick

Funny - the other night I told u I was going to buy it, then did some research and realized I should lease it.
Hearing the exhaust on your X5M that morning helped convince me too.

The GTS in winter is what makes me miss the M5 the most, its just not a comfortable car with all the creature comforts, but I didn't go into it thinking it would be.

I can't stand rock chips, if i get one in year 1 and need to see it for years 2 and 3, it will drive me crazy. Bra itself isn't all that pricey anyhow (would do just front bumper and headlights) and would prevent them for hitting me on oversized rock chips at lease end.

Seems like you're running $1500-2000 for the bare minimum wrap protection. Agreed that doing less is pointless, considering my hood already has chips in it.

I came from an F12 BMW M6 so it was a change but at its core still a BMW. Sometimes I miss the low-slung nature of the M6, skating around the highway but the X5M is definitely a beast on its own.
No one expects the power from this thing at all ~ I went 150 mph yesterday and it's scary fast!

Of course the only bad thing I heard was the older guy from Motorweek - he pretty much said it was ugly. Couldn't disagree more, but youre entitled to your opinion.

I've decided against wrapping in the end.
I know I'll have rock chips when they come, but I'd rather chuck the $3k+ toward an exhaust.

My suggestion is to do the full 7 MSDs for the rate reduction ... at this level of vehicle $, it pays off. Fully refundable @ end of lease ... or roll-over into MSDs on the next lease. Quote:
- July 2016 Production (per my request). Flemington BMW was willing to do it for 12% off MSRP if I was ready to move today, but I don't want to take delivery until August. They will not care and allow it to remain on @ end of lease turn-in ... but why waste the $$ ... they wont charge you for rock chips @ end of lease |

So you are foregoing any rebates but I guess you made up for it in the deal you got. Curious why you are opting for the last of the 2016s rather than the first of the 2017s. Is it based on timing of a lease you're in now? I'm currently contemplating if I should wait for a 2017 or not, and if not i would do it right away. And those others quoting their deals, are you counting the Winter adder, option allowance and loyalty credit in your discounts? Would make a huge difference for me to know since I may not qualify for any of those if I choose to wait. |

My current lease ends in November 2016, so the timing is somewhat around that and mainly around getting the "last of the '16s". EOP on MY16 F85 is July. SOP for 17MY F85 is beginning in August 2016. There is no LCI happening for 17MY, so I see no reason to wait. Also, option packages on ///Ms tend to be consistent throughout the life of the vehicle, with Competition Packages offered for the LCI. Since I will not wait until Summer 2017 (18MY (LCI)) to get the F85, taking a '16 vs '17 will have no difference to me other than saying the car is a model year newer if i got a '17. I'm not buying this out @ the end, so I don't care about long-term residual value of the vehicle. 15k leases have been hovering @ 55% residual for over 12 months now as well as the money factor @ .00130 to .00133 for about the same time, so while I can't lock any of that in on the contract I signed now (60-day lock once the credit app is submitted to BMW FS) ... its also a low risk of a severe change in 4 months from now when the credit app goes to BMW FS and we lock everything down. Since this is a lease, and BMW is materially changing the maintenance program for all 2017+ vehicles (and obviously not for the better for the customer) I want the 16MY to get the last of the good 'ole days of literally everything covered for the term of the lease, except tires and gas. To me its worth it to take the chance that BMW doesn't offer pull-ahead on my current lease and have the extra car for a couple of months. BMW traditionally offers pull-ahead at 3 months before the end of the lease, so I am confident things will work out in my favor. Last edited by CaboM4; 02-22-2016 at 05:48 PM.. |

Is it confirmed there will be no LCI for '17? Since I have time, I could wait, mainly for new color options which BMW does tend to add mid cycle. Whats your best guess as to which model year the F85 runs through? 2018? I was told the F X5 will only run 5 years instead of the normal 7.

Question regarding the shift logic, is it the same as a DCT in that you pull down to upshift and push up to downshift?

Thanks elisiX, hopefully I dont mis-shift it since my other car is the opposite! Tooke me a couple weeks to unlearn my DCT shifting logic.
BTW, my wife decided on Carbon Black/Mugello Red just like yours. My only hope is if I do it now, they dont release Imola Red as an exterior color for MY17, saw a video of the F85 in Imola and it was sublime.
