BMW M5 - much attention?
Hi
I know the M5 is a little understated, compared to other cars with similar performance. But I’m keen to hear people’s experience both positive and negative when driving the F10 M5. Do you get much hassle with people trying to race you, asking questions at fuel stations etc? |

I always get a G37 or a Camry trying to race me. M3s and other M5s. actually most cars on the road for that matter always try and race or get more aggressive when they see me. most I ignore. unless they are worthy of a race

The most I get are some thumbs up on the highway, I really like the sleeper status unless the person really knows what the car is, most dont pay much attention to it.

Once in a while there'll always be morons trying to egg you on... I just simply ignore them. I really do like the sleeper aspect of the car, which is one of the main reasons why I bought it, but I do also enjoy getting the odd thumbs up and compliments from enthusiasts that knows exactly what the car's about.

I get more thumbs up than anything else. Someone came over and congratulated me at the golf course when it was a few months old. When I sold and got my 911, I get corvettes and STI's trying to race me.

Idiots assume you drive a 535, and car guys respect the car. It's actually perfect. You fill up your Ferrari and everyone needs to interact with you. You stop an M5 and only car people want to chat.

I live in England I think over here people are much more highly strung with cars, if you have a nice car, often they will think you're having a mid life crisis, compensating for something or are a total dic*head....Or simply just look ahead pretending they haven't seen you. I experienced this lots of time when driving an orange Mclaren!!
Corvettes etc don't exist over here...or are extremely rare. It's a weird British thing I think... Also it's a standing joke in the UK that BMW drivers are really rude and never indicate.... |

I get hit on a lot by mustangs and these annoying Camaros all day everyday. For me M5 has everything I need in a car, couldn't ask for more in a sedan.

I have a keen eye, and I myself even have a hard time to pick out a M5 with a quick glance. Unless you have a eye-popping color (MCB or SO), you'll be under the radar.
I drive a M6GC though...so I cannot give you a straight answer. I draw ALOT of attention to say the least. For the most part, it's not a "haters" type attention, more like an "awe" type response bc there's just not enough of GCs out there. I see people checking out the car, taking pictures, pointing it out to their g/fs, doing double takes, driving next to me, but also I get no thumbs up. I akin to M6GC ownership on a similar level close to owing an exotic. But hey, that's what I signed up for when I bought this car, but I digress.

I've had loads of attention in mine. Mostly positive so far. I mainly get people at traffic lights asking me to give it some rev's, that usually keeps them happy.
Went to the British GT round in Spa last year and was very surprised at how much attention I was getting from the locals. Was travelling with a mate who was in his RS6, they hardly noticed him. But when they did notice him it only woke them up to me coming along. Never had so many video's and photo's taken before. On the flip side I'm more than happy for someone to ask questions or show a keen interest, even let those that want to take a seat for a good look round. |
