Question bimmercode: allows coding out brake pad wear sensor?

does the bimmercode app allow for coding out of the brake pad wear sensors?

Why would you want or need to do that?

Because I track the car and am constantly checking the brakes anyway. I tripped it recently and can't get rid of the emergency brake light unless I replace the sensor.

if the wear sensor is already triggered (worn through), you can just use solder to bridge the worn contact and not reinstall it on the pad or you can cut off the end piece, strip the wired and twist them together and solder them. Cover it with a piece of heat shrink and you are back in business. (the latter is what I did on my track car.

That's what I thought.

It is not possible to remove the pad sensor warning through coding. The only way to do so is by closing the physical circuit. You do so by either replacing the sensors and zip tying them to the suspension instead of installing them on the pads. Or by making a "plug" by cutting the sensor wire close to the connector, stripping the wires and twisting them together.

thanks for your help, sir. was hoping to avoid buying the wear sensor. does the sensor actually need to bite onto something or does the replacement part itself and resetting on the dash do the job?

You do not need to install the sensor in the pad.

on the diagram you can see the solid connection between the two wires on the sensor. This is the connection that is broken when the pad wears down. You can either bridge that connection OR cut the wire of the sensor and short the two wires together.

The sensor left off the pad won't trigger anything...ever. Your car will think it's got infinite brakes

(doing my rear pads tomorrow because the effing car has been nagging me all week.)

The circuit just needs to closed, i.e. the two wires connecting. The sensors does not need to be hooked up to anything.

When the pad sensor wears, it cuts the little wire inside the sensor head, opening the circuit and triggering the iDrive message. Once you close the circuit by either replacing the sensor or by twisting the wires, the alarm goes away, no action needed "on the dash".

This. Mine is just tie wrapped off to the side. No lights/codes.
