Daytime running lights

Can anyone confirm if the 1 coupe (UK) has daytime running lights as standard, or are they only included if you go for the optional xenon headlights... or are they not an option at all?

The UK price brochure also says that the "xenon headlights will use LED technology", which is something I have never heard of. Anybody know what this means?

The Xenons will use the corona rings (which are lit via LEDs) as the DRLs. Non-Xenon cars do not have the corona rings, and have a "city light" built into the high beam bezel, that is used for DRLs on those cars. See part number 9 here for the city light.

Can they be turned off?

I hate DRL's. Can they be programmed off on the 1-series?

Yes, either via the Car Key settings, or via onboard settings.

I doubt they will be able to be killed in those jurisdictions where DRLs are mandated by law (e.g. Canada).

They obviously won't be able to be turned off there. He's asking from the US though.

LED means Light Emitting Diode.
