Another fresh Michelin tyre for the rear
It's important not to have too old tyres especially on the rears being the drive wheels, BMW they say every six years as the rubber goes hard and with spirited driving can start to crack around the top of the sidewalls. The fronts can remain on longer and this one YO one arrived yesterday and happy to have fresh soft rubber on the back, it's replacing a worn one that's 7 years old. It doesn't have to be BMW rated ie no marking, can have NO AO or MO whatever.
You all know what happened to Paul Walker who was killed in US when the P-car he was a passenger in burst a too old tyre and hit an obstacle at speed. |

This ones an NO Porsche ticked, doesn't make an ounce of difference so don't be put off buying nearly new used ones on e bay but I wouldn't buy old stock unused ones which are say 4-5 YO or more.

Haha I always run those N0 Porsche tires off eBay. Shhh your gonna make the prices go up for us. You can’t go wrong. I get at least 5-6k miles out of them but I have to pay anywhere from $50 each just for the mount and balance how much are you paying for the mount and balance

There's a price to pay for the Dynamic Response Technology where the tread reforms under extremes to keep the tread firmly on the road to increase grip, so cracks can form on the circumference but this happens to some more tyres especially budget ones on the inside of the tyre too, hidden from view.

If you want longevity then you'll have to stick with the thicker side walled PSS which will last longer than ps4s but with much less grip and a harder ride. I've no idea what the PS5 S? has to offer and I haven't heard much about it but gather it's just another run of the mill compound with not that much to offer. For now PS4S offers the best ride comfort with it's thinner sidewalls and the best grip for M5.

Coming on again to report that the new rears are something else, I went to a deserted stretch of windy road and when the tyres were warm the cornering was like on rails. However hard I tried within safety limits I could not break the traction powering out of corners. Of course the warmer weather helps and the bottom line here is if your shiny harder tyres are sliding about too much then forget about more fancy wheels, spend the dough to get some fresher 4s on.

I'd highly recommend Conti Sport Contact 7s.
Imho they are better than ps4s (which I was using for years prior). Feedback from steering becomes much better and they grip superb. Running 295s on 7xxhp cls makes the car feel slow, that's how hard is it to loose traction on them (well for first 2kish. Considering I was running some camber (2f, 1.8r) to make that McPherson strut grip better and get rid of understeer, they did last about 8k of not so calm driving which is impressive! |
